MKT 630 IP3

The board has called a meeting to see how the new product for MM is coming along. Michelle calls you about the meeting.

“I like your ideas for branding the product,” she says. “I think the board wants an overview now of the whole process we are using for developing the new product. Can you do that?”
“Thanks for the comments about the branding strategy,” you say. “I tried to be creative with my approach. I’d be glad to show the board the process we are using to develop the new product.”
“Great,” she says. “Why don’t you do what you did last time? The 10–15 slides that you presented worked well in the 30-minute time slot.”
“In the past I’ve done similar presentations and have a format that really works. The board has been very receptive to the flow of the information and I think it will work for us for this presentation too,” she adds. “I’ll instant message the information to you after our meeting. The flow might work for you also.”
“Great,” you respond. “I’ll get started on this first thing in the morning.”

When you get back to your office, the instant message from Michelle is on your screen. It reads:

These are the areas we need to cover in the presentation.

HR Knowledge 5: Legal & Unions

Select and READ one of the following case studies (located in your textbook):

CASE 10-1 WILLFUL VIOLATION, OR A PROBLEM THAT CAN BE CORRECTED?
CASE 10-2 CONSTRUCTIVE DISCHARGE AND REINSTATEMENT OF STRIKERS

Next, analyze the case and provide an overview of key points or discussions. An overview is not a detailed description or regurgitated statements from the case, but instead key points in the caseThen, make 2 recommendations for improvements for any parts of the case (think like an HR leader). Saying that someone should have did this, or what you would have done are not considered improvements.

NOTES:

  • One to three small sentence-responses for analyzing the cases are not considered substantive.
  • You may only have no more than two references for your response and each must be appropriately cited in the words.
  • You may not copy and paste any part of another student’s response as part of your response.
  • For this course, you must comment to a minimum of 1 other student’s response…No Exceptions!
  • Although not mandatory, you are strongly encouraged to make your initial post by Wednesday of each week so that you have plenty of time to respond to your classmates

Supporting Lectures:

Review the following lectures:

Introduction:

You are a seasoned and top industry training consultant for many industries. You have received an invitation from a very large North American freight transportation company that has over 32,500 miles of routes in twenty-eight states and three Canadian provinces. The railroad company hauls agricultural, consumer, and industrial products and coal with twenty-five intermodal facilities and has access to forty ports. The company owns and operates approximately 8,000 locomotives and employs over 41,000 people. The corporation acknowledges that the highest quality safety is an inviolate objective. The corporation wants well-trained employees who share its vision for an injury- and accident-free workplace and who are willing to care for and protect one another. At the present time, and thanks to the employees’ commitment, a carefully maintained network, equipment, and well-prepared communities, the organization is a safety leader in the rail industry. It wants to establish a new process named “Approaching Others About Safety” (AOAS). This will be a training program for all railway employees. One of the goals of the program is for its employees to be confident about giving feedback to each other about safe behavior and avoiding unsafe, hazardous, and risky situations.

Therefore, all the employees need to learn the value of providing feedback when they see unsafe, dangerous, or perilous behaviors and situations. This comprehends “positively” recognizing and diagnosing when someone is working safe and sound . . . or correcting his or her actions when an employee perceives that another employee is at risk. The organization’s preliminary thought is that training should concentrate on the types of exposure that tend to result in most injuries. This may include walking and the path of travel around trains, rails, and equipment. Also, pinch points between railway cars and climbing or descending locomotives and railway cars must be included.

Tasks:

  • Explain your understanding of the learning process in general terms.
  • Analyze the different types of instructional characteristics that this program should have for learning and transfer to result in a process that decreases injuries, accidents, and lost workforce hours.
  • Analyze whether the characteristics would vary depending on who was attending the learning program, for example, managers; train crew; maintenance employees who service track, engines, rolling stock, and signals; staff, etc.
  • Summarize how the learning process can affect an organization.

To support your work, use your course and textbook readings and also use the South University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Submission Details:

  • Create a 2–3-page Microsoft Word document.

Stakeholders and Communication

Project Stakeholders and Communication

In any project, especially one where strategic planning is required, it is important to understand the need for communication throughout the project as well as the roles each stakeholder plays in the process. Failure to incorporate these two criteria in a project will often lead to project failure.

In a three-page essay, discuss the roles of management and leadership, specifically the chief executive officer (CEO), the board, and stakeholders. What role does each play in the planning process and during the project? In addition, discuss the need for communication throughout the project. Why is it important, and to whom are you communicating?

Be sure to include a title page and a reference page, which do not count toward the three-page requirement. Your essay, to include all references, will be formatted in APA style.

Organizational Issues and Solutions

Overview

Leaders address issues and propose solutions. As a leader, you’ll need to stay on top of events that may facilitate or hinder productivity. You must create and implement solutions to address these issues.

In the assignment preparation, you chose an organization, described its organizational issue, and identified how it hinders organization efficiency. This assignment exposes you to complex modern organizational challenges. The solutions you devise should reflect your learning and research of organizational and individual influences in the workplace.

Instructions

The new CEO has selected your consulting firm to provide an analysis of the organizational efficiency.

Write a 2–3 page, double-spaced paper in which you will present to the CEO your findings during your research steps. You must propose strategic solutions in your paper to include the following:

  1. Describe the organization and the issue to resolve:
    • Provide a brief description of the organization you selected.
    • Present the organizational issue that adversely affected productivity and that you, the consultant, will review and resolve.
    • This information can be summarized from your assignment preparation last week. Make sure to incorporate any feedback that you received from your instructor.
  2. Analyze current corporate culture:
    • How has the current corporate culture facilitated the development of the current issue? Research the organization, dig into the culture, and analyze how it contributed to this issue. Hint: Review the mission and vision statements as well as the corporate Web site.
  3. Identify areas of weakness:
    • What are the organization’s areas of weakness as they relate to the issue? Apply your research on organizational behavior approaches to aspects of corporate culture—such as diversity, teamwork, and motivational strategies—to help identify the areas of weakness.
  4. Propose solutions:
    • What organizational practices would you modify? What solutions would you recommend to management that would help solve the identified weaknesses? As a consultant, you will identify the suggestions and solutions you would present to the organization’s leadership with regard to modifying current organizational practices to resolve the issue.
  5. References and citations:
    • Provide at least two quality resources such as the course textbook, a company Web site, business Web sites (CNBC, Bloomberg, etc.), resources from the Strayer Library, and/or outside sources. Note: Wikipedia and Web-based blogs do not qualify as credible resources.

Discussion 8

A Chinese proverb states, “In a broken nest, there are few whole eggs.” Within an organization, broken professional relationships may result in damage to the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization. For a leader, any “crack” or “break” in leadership may create future problems within the organization. With use of Leader-Member Exchange Theory and Social Network Theory, an effective leader may find that the creation of positive, professional relationships with subordinates is helpful in preventing breaks in relationships in order to guide an organization toward success.

For this Discussion, reflect on the similarities and differences between Leader-Exchange Theory and Social Network Theory. Consider how you might integrate each theory into your own personal, unified leadership theory. Think about how you might use this theory in a health care administration scenario.

Post a brief comparison between Leader-Member Exchange and Social Network Theory. Then, explain how you might apply Leader-Member Exchange Theory and Social Network Theory into your personal, unified leadership theory. Finally, relate this personal, unified theory to a health care administration scenario with which you are familiar. Be specific and provide examples.
