Human R

RESPOND about the strategies selected to implement for smoother termination.

According to Frick (2019) there are some steps that an employer can take to keep terminations both manageable and legally defensible. Describe 2–3 of these steps and suggest strategies the HRM professional might implement within the workplace to make smoother terminations. Provide workplace examples where possible

Plan the meeting – the reason for this is to make sure you are not embarrassing them Infront of everyone at the workplace. Planning the meeting helps to get the information needed and making sure the reason they are being terminated is not biased but based on factual evidence. During this time is finding a place to hold the meeting and having a neutral person such as an HR representative to complete the termination is better because there is no bias. You also want to make sure you treat them with respect and dignity and trying not to make them feel uncomfortable about he whole situation. Some strategies the HRM professional might implement is confidentiality about the termination where no one should be talking about the termination. Having a designated office space  to complete the termination is a great help because you would know ahead of time where to have the meeting and you would not have to be looking for a place every time you have to let someone go.  At my old job you can see in the managers office and you can see who walks in there and leaves and never return without evening asking a question.

Having the proper paperwork – The reason for this is because you want to make sure that when you are giving the termination papers, they are correct, and you want to make sure that they are getting their last paycheck. This would include vacation, sick time, any hours they accrued when they were working. They also want to make sure that you are including retirement, insurance and any other form of benefits they were receiving. Another thing is to always spell check because and proofread before handing them any form of paperwork. The HR representative can make sure they have spoken to the employee’s manager before time, speak with the company lawyer before giving any type of paperwork to an employee that is being terminated. When they do have to call the employee in make sure someone is there with them and if you need security there with you as well, I would have that available to protect everyone in the room. Not broadcasting what is going on and keeping things confidential is very important.

Media and Society

Assignment 1: Position Paper One – Media and Society

This is the first of two (2) position papers based on the following scenario to be completed in this course.

Imagine  that you are running for a state office (e.g., governor, senator, or  Congressional representative) and you have to prepare a position paper  for a debate on controversial issues in the news. (Select one (1) of the  topics addressed in the first four weeks of this class.) Remember that  you are addressing a significant segment of your state’s population and  you want to be elected to public office, so your topic will have to have  a broad appeal, such as the importance of family values, the fair  treatment of women in the workplace (equal pay for equal work), the  treatment of minorities, and the media and one’s self-image, among other  topics from those chapters.

You  will want your position paper to demonstrate critical thinking, sound  logic, valid claims, personal passion, and credible support that is  cited correctly because the paper will be provided to the news media  before the debate and will be scrutinized by the media and reported on  regarding these criteria.

Write a two to three (2-3) page (500 to 750 words) paper in which you:

  1. Introduce  your position using a thesis statement in the first paragraph,  including a quote, question, or statistic from your reliable sources and  an overview of the main points you will cover. (It’s important to grab  the audience’s interest and inform the audience of what the main and  support points are.)
  2. Provide two or three (2-3) major points to support your thesis statement. (Put each major point in a separate paragraph.)
  3. Provide one (1) paragraph in which you identify and answer an expected argument against your view.
  4. Organize arguments and support your claims effectively.
  5. Demonstrate  personal passion for your position and critical thinking with  persuasive language, sound logic, valid claims, and credible support for  the claims.
  6. Use  the Strayer University Library at https://research.strayer.edu to  locate and provide two to three (2-3) credible and reliable sources (in  addition to the textbook) about current events, which have been  published in the last five (5) years and are cited correctly in the  position paper. (Wikipedia, dictionaries, and encyclopedias are unacceptable and will not count toward your number of credible sources.)

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be  typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with  one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow Strayer Writing Standards. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include  a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s  name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover  page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment  page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Apply critical thinking skills to the analysis of issues involving mass media and society.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in media and society.
  • Write clearly and concisely about media and society using proper writing mechanics.

Cost of Active Management

Research an index fund and compare the costs (management fees, loads, etc) to the costs of an actively managed fund in the same space.

The successful submission will state the differences in active and passively managed funds from a cost standpoint and make an informed assessment of the degree to which the additional costs are or are not justified.

The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:

  • Write between 750 – 1,250 words      (approximately 3 – 5 pages) using Microsoft Word in APA style, see example      below.
  • Use font size 12 and 1” margins.
  • Include cover page and      reference page.
  • At least 80% of your paper must      be original content/writing.
  • No more than 20% of your      content/information may come from references.
  • Use at least three references      from outside the course material, one reference must be from EBSCOhost.      Text book, lectures, and other materials in the course may be used, but      are not counted toward the three reference requirement.
  • Cite all reference material      (data, dates, graphs, quotes, paraphrased words, values, etc.) in the      paper and list on a reference page in APA style.

References must come from sources such as, scholarly journals found in EBSCOhost, CNN, online newspapers such as, The Wall Street Journal, government websites, etc. Sources such as, Wikis, Yahoo Answers, eHow, blogs, etc. are not acceptable for academic writing.

Discussions Due Monday by 5pm

                                                                                    Discussion 1

Human service and social service agencies respond to both individual and community needs. Imagine that you are the director of a domestic violence shelter. How do you determine whether or not a client’s need is individual and should be addressed in a treatment plan or whether the client’s need is part of a larger community issue? Provide examples of criteria and factors you would consider before responding on a micro versus macro level. Be specific. Give examples.

                                                                                  Discussion 2

Using information from search engines and other credible sources, address the following in this week’s discussion: Select two research instruments whether it is a  survey, community mapping, interviews, or focus group. Compare and contrast the two tools and provide an example of how these tools might be used appropriately in a needs assessment. Be specific. Give examples.
