Quite possibly, the most significant issue impacting business today is the rise in employment harassment and discrimination claims. This impacts not only the workplace, but dominates our political realm as well, as referenced by a recent Supreme Court nominee and US Senator. With that as a background, write a paper that addresses the following:

Describe/define the principle federal laws associated with harassment and discrimination.

Discuss the state of harassment and discrimination in today’s workplace (statistics, scope, for example).

Finally, as a human resource professional, detail a thorough and comprehensive strategy that would significantly reduce the level of harassment and discrimination complaints that currently face US businesses. Your strategy must include at least three strategies, including any impediments that may affect their implementation.

Your paper should be:

5-7 pages in length, or about 2300 words, not including title and reference pages (which are required). Include a formal references page.

When working in Human Services,  the intake process lays the foundation for building the helping relationship.  The way intakes are done can vary from agency to agency. Many organizations  will have specific forms or paperwork that the client will complete and go over with the Human Services professional. The information collected in the intake is only the beginning when it comes to learning about the client’s needs.   

Human Services professionals need  to be mindful of how the intake discussion is communicated and documented. It  is important to keep the language neutral and objective. The professional must  not interject their own opinions or insights and the focus of the appointment  must be on gathering information.

This week you will submit the Intake and Assessment notes for your course project. A school worker sent this information (Case Study) to me as a child protective worker, From my standpoint, I must meet with the family and formulate my assessment.

Intake/Assessment  Notes- For this submission  you will create an  intake form that you would use in your initial meeting with the family. You  will need to document the specific phrases and/or questions that you would use  in order to obtain the information needed to work with the family. Be mindful  of the language used with the client during the intake. 

  • Intake  Notes: Your intake notes should include questions or statements that collect information on the following as well as any additional information you feel is relevant:
    • Details related to each member of the  family (age, sex, grade in school, etc.)
    • Family Structure
    • Employment status
    • Family history related to marital status, moving, work, etc
    • Background with Human Services
    • Current life stressors (work, financial difficulties, substance abuse, etc.)
    • Current needs the client has

  • Assessment Notes: Your assessment notes should document the information you know about the family from the referral.  Although the assessment notes will more than likely not be seen by the client, it is important that the language used maintains professionalism and  objectivity. You will want to include the following as well as any additional information you feel is relevant:
    • Note who made the referral 
    • Identify the reasons for referral
    • Present the issues that you might address 
    • Identify potential avenues of resources to explore

A female employee (Tammy) approaches HR on Monday morning complaining about a male employee who hugged her Sunday Night at work. The female states her department was working over the weekend on system conversion project that had to be implemented by 7:00 AM Monday morning. The department lead Mike who is also a non-exempt employee was leading the system conversion Sunday night as requested by their supervisor. The team was excited that at Midnight Sunday when they hit the transfer switch all systems transfer over without a hitch. Mike approached Tammy with his arms extended out to embrace her. Tammy said, “Mike do not touch me, I have told you before I do not like for you to touch me”. Mike gave Tammy a big hug anyway rubbing his chest against hers lifting her feet off the floor stating, “That is reward for doing a great job, boy that feels good”. Mike had been warned before about making inappropriate comments to female employees. Tammy shared the incident with her husband who wants to confront Mike. Mike is one of the only employees who could have run the systems conversion without supervision and has received accolades from the Department Director and CEO for his system knowledge and system conversion success.

You are the HR director: How would you have handled the situation? How do you handle the Director and CEO? How do you handle Tammy’s husband?

For this assignment, you will use Hofstede’s characteristics to differentiate  international and domestic business operations. This exercise   will help identify the key characteristics that drive business decisions on an international and domestic level.

Part  1:  Pick three individual countries, one in the Middle East, one in Asia, and one in Europe. Apply Hofstede’s characteristics to each one,  and state if the characteristic is low, medium, or high in each country. Also,  explain why each country deserves that description.

Part  2:  Given your descriptions, explain which  country is  most like the United States and which country is most unlike the U.S.Your response must be a minimum of three pages in length.
