CLASSMATE 1

Discussion 4

Topic: How do you motivate employees?

As I’ve mentioned before, one of the dilemmas in leadership today is the ability for the designated individual to actually lead the team. Most leaders appear to be more concerned with designating tasks, instead of building a unified work environment. There are many challenges that comes with leading a team. However, the implementation of collaboration and effective communication can alleviate a lot of issues, while motivating employees.

Employing a collaborative work environment can definitely aid in the increase of productivity, among the employees, within the organization. “A team that works well together can succeed together and produce great results” (Reeves, Xyrichis, and Zwarenstein, 2018). Employees will strive to achieve goals more, if they feel a sense of belonging within the company. The team will develop a sense of alliance as they, collectively, work towards achieving a common goal. Bolman and Deal (2017) discussed that building a positive and collaborative work environment can guide, motivate, and inspire the team to produce their best performance. Communication is, also, a vital component in managing and motivating others. I believe that the members of a team are more prone to fully engaging in their task when they’re able to effectively communicate with each other and their leader. Communicating with the group will assist the leader in being cognizant of the team’s issues that might negatively impact the success of the team. For example, as a leader, I can ask the team to outline their strengths and weaknesses and then find ways to utilize the team’s strengths to improve some of those weaknesses. Also, I can ask my team to divulge ways that they feel the team could improve. Again, it is the act of using communication and collaboration to better the business.

I believe an effective leader should utilize team development and team building approaches to assist in increasing cohesion in the workplace. These methods can increase engagement amongst the team, but it must start with communication first. The team needs to have an understanding of its’ purpose and the roadmap to obtain set goals.

CLASSMATE 2

Motivation is an essential skill and capability that leaders want to ensure they possess. Part of the motivation consists of empowering individuals. Motivation can be defined as one willing to complete a task with conditions of receiving something in return or satisfying a need (Robbins, DeCenzo, & Wolter, 2019). Motivation can come in different forms. For instance, motivation can be money, food, bonuses, parties, etc. Motivating employees can increase and improve productivity as well as job satisfaction. Additionally, motivating employees can assist in establishing a positive atmosphere.

While I do not think motivating employees is a hard task to complete, I also do not think it is an easy task. Maslow believed that people are motivated by a variety of wants (Bolman & Deal, 2017). Maslow developed a hierarchy of needs, rating the needs from lowest to highest. The bottom of the pyramid consists of one’s physiological needs. Next is the need for safety. The need for social belonging is next. One’s esteem is second to last in the pyramid. Lastly, the pyramid consists of achieving self-actualization. For some working for an organization is not all about receiving a paycheck. However, for some, it may be having a sense of belonging to something bigger than them.

When it comes to motivating employees, I try to consider myself in the equation. If it were me, what would motivate me? As a leader, I would have implemented incentives to motivate my employees. Some incentives I would incorporate is a free dress day, a pizza day, earning a half a day, or even earning a full day off. Developing teams in some organizations and having them achieve a goal for a reward can also motivate them to increase their productivity. I think it is important to empower individuals at the start of their shift, so I believe just sending a positive email can help jump start my employee’s day. Also, during meetings, I would leave the floor open to questions or concerns to be addressed. Making employees feel important matters to me and my leadership capabilities will reflect that. It is one thing to be in a leadership role, but it is another to actually lead and empower.

We’ve learned how big of an advantage that technology can be in today’s business environment. Every major strategic management goal will make use of multiple types of technology during implementation. In this assignment, you will need to create a presentation for the upper management at your chosen course project business. The presentation will focus on suggesting two pieces of technology that you feel are essential to the implementation of your chosen strategic management goal. This presentation will be in PowerPoint and requires the recording of audio. Below is a detailed breakdown of what should be included in the presentation. Remember that presentations need to engage the audience through visual and auditory means. Use PowerPoint’s features to accomplish this.

  • Create a title slide.
  • Summarize the goal you are trying to accomplish and the value it will bring to the business.
  • Identify two pieces of technology that you believe are essential to you accomplishing your chosen strategic management goal.

      • Include a final APA works cited slide.
  • Format the presentation so that it’s engaging and employs advanced formatting features such as templates, transitions, charts, or video.

Part 2

The stage is set for your strategic goal to become a reality. Before that can happen, you’ll need to think through and map out the tasks within the project. This assignment will focus on planning out the individual aspects of the project using the project management tools that you’ve previously learned. You will be able to use Word or Excel for this assignment. (Choose whichever you’re more familiar with.) It’s important to think through the goal you’re trying to accomplish and how you’ll reach it. The more detailed you can be with your tasks, the smoother the project management cycle will go. Your submission this week for Part 2 should accomplish the following:

  • Create a basic chart that lists out at least 8 tasks required to complete your chosen strategic management goal and estimates on how long each will take to complete.
  • Create a Gantt chart using the tasks listed in the previous chart.
  • Create a network diagram using the tasks listed out in the previous chart.
  • Analyze your created Gantt chart and network diagram. Identify two potential issues that may be a cause for concern when the project gets underway.

Physician’s Practice Managemen

  1. Operations Planning for a Group Medical Practice
Imagine that a group of physicians who are planning to open a single-specialty group practice has hired you as a consultant. Your job is to advise the physicians in creating a business plan that includes management strategies that will help ensure their success. The physicians have stipulated that the plan must promote medical excellence and limit their exposure to risks associated with the practice of medicine and the operational functions of the practice. In addition, they are aware that a public health emergency or natural disaster could have a significant impact on their practice, and therefor they want to include a strategy for emergency preparedness as part of their plan so that they will be able to manage their patients and help serve the community as needed.
Write a 4–6 page paper in which you:

    1. Compare and contrast the two main levels (i.e., internal comparison and external comparison) of financial benchmarking. Next, analyze the strategic purpose of each level of benchmarking and specify the overall importance of benchmarking as a financial planning tool for a medical practice.
    2. Recommend a Health Information Technology (HIT) system that includes an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for the new practice to implement. Support your recommendation by determining three main benefits of having this type of system for the practice.
    3. According to the text (p. 368), some of the main areas of risk exposure for a group practice include: property (general liability and safety), technology, and financial practices. Determine one specific hazard associated with one of these risk categories and propose a strategy to mitigate the impact this risk could have on the practice. Support your analysis with a real-life example.
    4. Determine the main functions of the practice that will need to remain operational before, during, and after a natural disaster or public health emergency. Next, suggest a strategy that the practice should take to maintain communication with employees and patients, secure patient and financial records, and ensure that resources will available to care for patients during a disaster or emergency. Provide a rationale for your response.
    5. Use at least three quality academic resources.
