Shante,

As a healthcare manager, you should consider providing reference aids to the employees that can be used as reference in order to review what they have learned. We should encourage employees to get training partners which will also aid in getting support and tacking obstacles that may come about during training. We must always encourage employees to ask for help so that you can subside any preoccupations that may have come from the training.

Which of the above do you believe is the most important component which will help maximize the chances that training is retained and spread?

Human Resource management: Final Project Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric

Overview: This milestone is designed to begin a critical analysis applying knowledge gained within the course. This short paper assignment is the first step in the analysis of the company that will become your final project. For the final project, you will review the human resource management (HRM) in an organization through a real scenario.

This case study will give you the opportunity to explore various roles and processes within the human resources profession.

A key skill for any professional working in human resources is the ability to develop and implement processes that align with a company’s strategic plan and mission.

Begin by reading the first 13 pages of the case study, A.P. Moller-Maersk Group: Evaluating Strategic Talent Management Initiatives (up to HR-Customer Initiative at Maersk), located in your Harvard Business Review Coursepack.

Start your short paper by briefly answering the following questions:

1. Explain why the human resource function should be aligned with an organization’s strategic plan (use ideas from the Module One discussion on this

topic).

2. Explain how current global conditions in Maersk’s industry impact human resource management practices within this organization (use ideas from the

Module One discussion on this topic).

Then, using the material on recruitment strategies provided in this week’s lesson and the case study, address the following:

1. Compare and contrast recruitment and selection of internal versus external candidates in general.

2. Describe how Maersk has recruited and selected new employees who were aligned with the organization’s vision and goals over the years.

3. Assess the effectiveness of its recruitment process and determine what changes if any you would recommend to improve employee success and

retention.

Guidelines for Submission: Your submission should be 2–3 pages in length and double-spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font. Be sure to list your

references at the end of your paper.

Discussion 10

Servant leadership is a valuable theory to enact change within society. From Gandhi to Martin Luther King, Jr., servant leadership highlights that a leader’s greatness may depend upon the way in which the leader serves his or her subordinates. With servant leadership, a leader transforms into a guide or teacher for subordinates, in turn creating subordinate autonomy and ownership in work. As a leader, empowering your subordinates and cultivating a vested interest in work might be the most essential components to develop for effective, servant leadership.

For this Discussion, select an event, not previously used in the course, which highlights techniques of servant leadership. For the event, consider whether or not the leadership techniques were effective. Also, consider the possibility of applying another leadership theory to the selected event. How may the outcomes change in relation to the application of a different leadership theory?

By Day 3

Post a brief description of the event you selected. Then, explain whether servant leadership was the most effective leadership perspective in the event you selected. Justify your response. Finally, explain how event outcomes might have been different with another leadership perspective.

Support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and the current literature.

Managers Can Lead Career Development

Background:

“Karla, two members of your staff came to see me and share a few areas of concern this morning,” explained Alley when she and Karla met in a conference room.

“I wish they had come to me first,” Karla said impatiently. “What were their issues?”

“Well, to be honest, they do not feel you are really committed to their development and that you lack concern for them.”

“Alley, I say yes to 90% of development requests from training, to tuition assistance, to conferences and even out-of-branch rotations. I go out of my way to develop my people.”

“I know, Karla! You have a great record on paper.”

“What do you mean? Where else do I need to have a great record? Isn’t what can be measured what is important?”

“Karla, I think the challenge you are facing is difficulty in projecting genuine and individual concern for them. I am convinced, you do all you can, but they do not seem to feel your concern, and that is where it really counts.”

“What can I do to change that, Alley? I care about my employees. I really do! How can I show them that?”

 Question:

  • What could be the barrier or barriers that exist between Karla and her direct reports?
