In a detailed, tightly argued ten-page paper, with frequent reference (without copying) to text and class material:

• Provide a list of the top four most important social determinants of health and explain why you think these are important. How are they related to each other? (20%).

• Discuss how Canadian public policy – laws and regulations — shapes the quality and distribution of these social determinants of health (20%).

 • Identify two groups of Canadians who are experiencing especially high rates of COVID-19. Describe their living and working situations. Identify two groups of Canadians who appear to be less likely to suffer from COVID-19. Describe their living and working situations. (20%).

• What are some of the groups that would resist having the social determinants of health being improved in Canada? Why would they have these attitudes? (20%.)

 • What are some of the specific public polices – laws and regulations — that would make the distribution of income and wealth more equitable in Canada? (20%). Insert page numbers. DO NOT USE ANY QUOTATIONS. Use your own words.

State Strategies Assignment* miami florida.

Exercise Content

  1. State Strategies (20% of grade)
The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize students with health reform strategies adopted by states. Students will select a state health policy reform innovation and describe the rationale, how it was adopted (e.g., federal waivers, passage by state legislature), the funding structure, and (to the extent statistical data are available) its impact. Students should summarize their findings in a 1-2 page, single-spaced memo.
Sample memo attached. A memo is required, see attached sample.
A few examples of state innovations include Vermont’s single payer system, Massachusetts’ health reforms and Kentucky’s Medicaid healthcare program (none of these can be used).

Patho Discussion W6

D. D. is a 66 year-old female suffering from shortness of breath. She smoked 2 packs a day until she quit 2 years ago. She has a history of bronchiolitis, hyperinflated lungs, pulmonary edema, and syncope. Her primary care practitioner suspects she also has pulmonary hypertension (PH). After examination, D. D. has a PAP of 35mmHg and mild CHF.

Citing scholarly resources, answer the following questions:

            1.   What is pulmonary hypertension and how could D. D. have developed PH?

            2.   How does her history fit in with her new diagnosis?

In addition to the two questions above, select ONE other question from the list below to complete your discussion post. Be sure to cite the sources of your information. Be sure to clearly identify which supplemental question you chose to answer.

     1.   How many patients are suffering from COPD in the US? Do COPD sufferers die of respiratory causes or other causes? (be sure to cite the data)

     2.   What are the two separate diseases that are the main COPD diseases? Give background on each disease.

     3.   How does COPD correlate with left ventricular pressure and primary heart failure?

     4.   What are the three types of bronchodilators, and how do they function to alleviate the symptoms of COPD? What are other possible treatments

           for COPD?

     5.   Through what mechanism does bronchiolitis cause destruction of alveoli? Is emphysema genetic? Can environmental factors increase the risk

of emphysema, why or why not?

     6.   Is lung transplantation a solution for emphysema? Can new technology be useful in the treatment of emphysema? Why or why not?

Question: Some students prefer classes with frequent discussions between the teacher and the students with almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with many lectures and almost no discussions. Which one do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

The Role of the RN/APRN in Policy Evaluation

Discussion:You considered how professional nurses can become involved in policy-making. A critical component of any policy design is evaluation of the results.

How comfortable are you with the thought of becoming involved with such matters?

Some nurses may be hesitant to get involved with policy evaluation. The preference may be to focus on the care and well-being of their patients; some nurses may feel ill-equipped to enter the realm of policy and political activities. However, as you have examined previously, who better to advocate for patients and effective programs and polices than nurses? Already patient advocates in interactions with doctors and leadership, why not with government and regulatory agencies?

In this Discussion, you will reflect on the role of professional nurses in policy evaluation.

4-6 paragraphs

To Prepare:

Discussion, You considered how professional nurses can become involved in policy-making.

Review the Resources and reflect on the role of professional nurses in policy evaluation

Post an explanation of at least four opportunities that currently exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy review.

Explain some of the challenges that these opportunities may present and describe how you might overcome these challenges.

Finally, recommend two strategies you might make to better advocate for or communicate the existence of these opportunities.

Be specific and provide examples.

The Application of Data to Problem-Solving

In the modern era, there are few professions that do not to some extent rely on data. Stockbrokers rely on market data to advise clients on financial matters. Meteorologists rely on weather data to forecast weather conditions, while realtors rely on data to advise on the purchase and sale of property. In these and other cases, data not only helps solve problems, but adds to the practitioner’s and the discipline’s body of knowledge.

Of course, the nursing profession also relies heavily on data. The field of nursing informatics aims to make sure nurses have access to the appropriate date to solve healthcare problems, make decisions in the interest of patients, and add to knowledge.

In this Discussion, you will consider a scenario that would benefit from access to data and how such access could facilitate both problem-solving and knowledge formation.

To Prepare:

  • Reflect on the concepts of informatics and knowledge work as presented in the Resources.
  • Consider a hypothetical scenario based on your own healthcare practice or organization that would require or benefit from the access/collection and application of data. Your scenario may involve a patient, staff, or management problem or gap.

By Day 3 of Week 1

Post a description of the focus of your scenario. Describe the data that could be used and how the data might be collected and accessed. What knowledge might be derived from that data? How would a nurse leader use clinical reasoning and judgment in the formation of knowledge from this experience?
