Management Overview

Do some research and answer the following critical thinking questions from this week’s readings in an essay format. Ensure you have a good introduction, body, and conclusion in your essay. In your analysis, cite a minimum of three (3) references from different sources (the textbook can be one source).

  1. Describe the formal, three-part definition of management and explain the most important part of the management definition and why you chose that part.
  2. Mintzberg’s study in the 1960s came up with three important findings about a manager’s routine. Identify the three findings and describe ways that technology and social media have changed the roles of managers since Mintzberg’s 1960 study.
  3. Analyze the two overarching theoretical perspectives about management and how they are applied to organizations. Also, explain the three viewpoints that each one covers.

Your submission should be a minimum of two (2), double-spaced, full pages of analysis with proper reference citation per current APA guidelines.

Portfolio Milestone – Progress, Timeline, and Roadblocks – APA –

For this Portfolio Milestone perform the following:

  • Provide a one-page submission noting your progress to date on the portfolio project,
  • update the timeline of activities remaining for portfolio production originally produced in Week 2,
  • update the concerns and roadblocks you have on the portfolio from Week 2 showing those you have resolved and how, along with any remaining concerns or roadblocks, and
  • how you will overcome those.

No need for formal APA submission for this assignment. Your timeline of activities is most critical as are your concerns, roadblocks, and how you will overcome those. It is expected that your timeline shows at least one task each week from Week 2 through Week 8, and many weeks should have multiple tasks.

The project assignment provides a forum for analyzing and evaluating relevant topics for this week on the basis of the course competencies covered.

Introduction

Major areas where an employer is likely to risk liability for invading the privacy of its employees in private (non-government) workplaces include the following:

  • Surveillance and eavesdropping
  • Monitoring and reviewing computer information and use
  • Requests for information from third parties, particularly job reference requests
  • Requests for medical information
  • Maintenance of personnel files
  • Drug testing of potential or current employees

Tasks

Select one of the potential liability risks from the list above and complete the following:

  • Analyze in detail the risk you chose.
  • Identify and describe a current news event related to the risk.
  • Examine a strategy that employers use to avoid being sued for the risk.
  • Evaluate the ethical balance between employee rights and employer needs regarding the risk.

To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use the South University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

A common debate in ethics is universalism versus relativism of ethics and moral codes.  A frequently asked question is “Does a universal moral code exist regardless of an individual’s culture?” As organizations are becoming increasingly global,  and understanding of universalism versus relativism of culture ethics is important.

Compare and contrast universalism and relativism.

Evaluate how universalism and relativism affect global social corporate responsibility.

Your response must be a minimum of 300 words.

Please use at least one scholarly or credible source in your discussion.

Find one research article. (Violence in America) Briefly summarize it in a paragraph or two, and then state if you think it is a quality research article or not.  Briefly explain your rationale for your decision.

Discussion 2

 Address the following: Having read the article. Discuss your thoughts regarding United Way’s needs assessment. Do you believe that their data is accurate? Why or why not? Had you conducted the needs assessment would you have used a different assessment tool or method? Be specific. Give examples.
