Final Paper

Write a 5-6 page paper that demonstrates a clear understanding as well as analysis of a topic that relates to the content of this course: Law in the Managerial Environment. To receive full credit, it is important that you follow the guidelines provided in the description of the assignment (see module 01 final paper requirements for more details) and the rubric. For the paper, you must integrate information found in peer reviewed, scholarly references as defined below. Remember that this is a scholarly paper, so you will need to ensure your paper aligns with the APA 6th edition writing style. In addition, you cannot use 1st person in this (or any) scholarly paper. Also, do not use “dot com” or wiki references. You are expected to showcase the comprehension of your topic in relation to a focus area(s) of this class.  

 Below are the expectations for this assignment:

  • APA 6th edition format
  • Title page
  • 5-6 pages of body
  • 8-10 peer reviewed, scholarly references. These references must be clearly cited within the body of your paper. Your textbook can be used as a reference but must be in addition to the 8-10 sources.  For the purposes of this course “Peer reviewed, scholarly references” also includes state, federal, and administrative cases, decisions, and opinions; statutes and regulations; constitutions; as well as Restatements and other legal summations of common law.

Overview
In your overview of the leader, include:

  • The leader’s name and title.

  1. Now that you have decided specifically what you are going to study and identified what you need to know, you need to decide how you are going to answer those questions. What are you going to measure? Here, you identify the variables that will be used to measure the problem and what each of those variables means. How are you going to measure those variables? What are the advantages or disadvantages of one measurement versus another?
    Part 1: Select a research design. In chapter 5 of your textbook, you are presented with basic information about several types of research design. What type are you going to use? Why? Describe how you are going to use this design to answer your research questions.
    Part 2: Design and include a simple survey as one of your data collection types and include both open-ended and closed response questions.
    Part 3: Once you have identified your research design, you will begin to build a codebook in which you specify your variables. You will need to identify your Independent Variable and Dependent Variables. In the codebook, you will identify each variable, define what possible measurement outcomes mean for that variable, and identify the variable as continuous, nominal, ordinal/ratio or scale.

    3. Informed Consent: Describe the consent process and attach all consent documents (for our purposes you will simply be describing the consent process).
    4. Procedures: Provide a step-by-step description of each procedure, including frequency, duration, and location of each procedure.
    5. How will confidentiality of the data be maintained?
    6. Describe all known anticipated risks to the subject including side effects, risk of placebo, risks of normal treatment delay.
    7. Describe the anticipated benefits to subjects, and the importance of the knowledge that may reasonably be expected to result.

Activity 5: Managing Work Force Diversity (100 points)

For this activity, you are the Training Director for Izzon. This company has recently lost a lawsuit for discrimination against a minority employee. Since there is no existing policy for diversity management within this company, it is your job to provide a design for this program. The program, in your own words, should include the following.  

1. A definition of workforce diversity 

2. What is involved in managing diversity 

3. Three (3) reasons why workforce diversity is important for this company 

4. Four (4) ways in which workforce diversity should be managed within this company

5. Ten (10) characteristics of successful workforce diversity efforts 

6. Five (5) ways to measure the program

Since Texaco recently faced a lawsuit for lack of proper diversity management, relevant information can be acquired from the current issues/diversity section of this company website.

Option #2: Managing Human Capital

One of the defining responsibilities of a human resource professional is to effectively manage human capital. There are many strategies and tactics that can be employed, including certain recruitment and selection techniques, compensation incentives, and training and development. In whatever strategies and tactics are taken, the intention is to assist senior management in creating and sustaining a well-structured and well-managed operation. The most important measure of organizational effectiveness for a business is usually expressed in terms of how well its net profitability compares with its target profitability. Additional measures associated with organizational effectiveness can include, but are not limited to, an organization’s growth data and customer satisfaction survey results.

With that background, write a paper that addresses the following:

  • Assess the term “human capital” and its relevance for an organization.
  • Discuss the role and function of human resources in relation to human capital.
  • Present four strategies that a human resource professional would propose to an organization to more effectively manage their human capital, including how a human resource professional would be an integral component of that plan.

Your paper should be:

  • 5-7 pages in length, or about 2300 words, not including title and reference pages (which are required). Include a formal references page.

Question #1 – 

Think of a recent change that happened in your organization. Try to focus on a large change, not just a small change in artifacts, such as a form. It might be a policy change, a change in leadership, a change in organizational goals. Think about how it was implemented. 

Based on Kotter’s 8 steps, describe the change. Did your organization follow each step? If so, describe how. If not, describe how “skipping” that step may have impacted the change and how employees responded to it. Use at least two class resources in your post. Remember to cite correctly.
