Introduction

Organization design provides tools to understand, design, and manage organizations more effectively, including issues such as how to adapt to a changing environment, cope with increasing size and complexity, manage internal conflict and coordination, and shape the right kind of culture to meet goals.

Tasks

Question 1:

Define organizational design and explain how it impacts an organization’s effectiveness.

Question 2:

How can organizational design help a firm succeed in a changing environment and cope with increases in size and complexity?

Needs Assessment

Observe and assess the state of your current organization, or another pre-selected organization. A needs assessment is necessary to identify areas for potential growth, both at the employee and organizational level. If you are not in a position to look holistically at your organization, you can focus on a department or team within the organization. Use the “Needs Assessment Matrix” resource to complete your needs assessment. You are required to analyze required functions, department or employment needs, jobs or tasks, and current trainings in order to complete your matrix and prepare for the next part of this assignment.

Job Descriptions

Once your needs assessment is complete, you are required to select an existing position in your organization and develop a one-page detailed job description for that position that is informed by the findings of the needs assessment. It is recommended that you take the time to conduct a job analysis and observe current employees in the selected positions to accurately depict the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics that must be incorporated into the job description. If you are unable to observe, do your best to accurately depict the specific functions of the job. Incorporate any new job roles you feel should be added to the position based on your findings. Make sure the job description is based on the needs and available resources of the organization, and that it adheres to all applicable labor laws.

If you were developing a research study that was studying a prevalent crime phenomenon in your community, what crime phenomenon would you measure, how would you measure that crime phenomenon, and how would you ensure the validity and reliability of the measures that you use in your study?

The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area has one of the highest violent crime rates in the United States. These crimes include rape, murder, aggravated assault, and robbery. As with any study or research, data needs to be obtained and measured. The data collected is the instrument used to measure the results and for this discussion board I will choose murder as the prevalent crime. In remaining consistent with the types of crimes committed in the community I would use the Uniform Crime Report (UCR) as an arbitrary scale. The UCR index covers crimes that are serious and are fairly accurate in their reporting (Hagan, 2014).

           To ensure validity and reliability of the study a test measurement will be implemented. One test will measure crime rate data over a period of time, for instance murder rates over the past decade. For instance, murder rates compared over the decade versus that in comparison to nationwide statistics. This comparison should prove that the data is consistent, thus, reliable. To determine the validity and framed in the form of an arbitrary scale, data will be obtained via a questionnaire of residents within city limits. This questionnaire would reach all persons of varying social classes. The resulting compilation of data would indicate if education, income, or occupation has bearing on the murder rates in comparison to national statistics, primarily, cities of similar size and social class makeup.

  1. Determine which facets of the Geico total rewards program align with the five (5) top advantages of a total rewards program outlined in Chapter 2 of the textbook and discuss your reasoning.
  2. Create a strategy for ensuring that the Geico plan addresses all of the advantages.
  3. Evaluate the effectiveness of the communication of Geico’s total rewards program based upon the Website’s descriptions of the benefits. Recommend two (2) areas for improvement.
  4. Assuming employees are unhappy with the current plan, offer two (2) improvements or changes to Geico’s total rewards program.
  5. Use at least five (5) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not quality as academic resources.
