The organizational role of human resources has changed considerably over the years. At one point in time, HR provided services. Now, in many organizations, HR provides strategic advice and counsel, as well as has a place in the C-Suite. In the case of Zappos (our case study this week), HR has become like a line area of the company, or a part of the executive team, and impacts every part of the company.

For this discussion post, explain and explore how human resources can create revenue and can play a vital role in partnering with an organization to achieve its strategic objectives.

According to the textbook, the current world economy is increasingly becoming integrated and interdependent; as a result, the relationship between business and society is becoming more complex. Your paper should begin with a discussion of the essential facts of the case, including a brief summary of the lower court decision(s) which gave rise to the appeal. Your discussion of the facts should be followed by a detailed analysis of the case. Your analysis should indicate what legal issues are presented in the case – in other words, what issues is the Court attempting to address and resolve? Some cases might have only a single issue, while others may have more than one. After you have described the facts and identified the legal issues presented, you should identify the relevant provisions of the law that the Court is interpreting in the case. In other words, what is the rule of law that governs the Court’s analysis of the case? The Law of Diminishing Returns says that continuous practice creates continuous improvement, even though improvements may be in smaller and smaller increments. If this is true, should anyone receive a grade of 100% on a test, paper, or demonstration of skill? Obviously, with Diminishing Returns, none of us ever gets it perfect. Are such scores counterproductive in that they create a sense of “being done” or “right” that stops our learners for continuing to practice?
