week 4 520

Motivation is the psychological process that arouses and directs behavior. There are three theories that will help us understand the motivation of employees in the workplace:

  • Goal-setting theory suggests behavior can be motivated with specific, challenging goals that are obtainable. The key to goal-setting theory is ensuring employees understand what is expected and accept the goals.
  • Self-efficacy is the belief in one’s personal ability to do a task. There is a lot to be said to scoring high in this trait. People who are confident about their ability tend to succeed, whereas those who doubt their ability tend to fail.
  • Reinforcement theory explains how behavior can be altered by administering positive or negative consequences to actions of employees. Behavior with positive consequences tends to be repeated, and behavior with negative consequences tends not to be repeated.

Step 2 – Post a Response

Respond to the following.

  • Take a moment to think about what it would take to motivate you to achieve your goals at work, which theory would you use and why?
  • In reflecting on either an experience at work or with a family or friend, how can you motive them to achieve the goals in their lives? Which motivational theory would you use and why?

Strategic Value of Employee Benefits Programs

To attract, motivate, and retain good workers, companies need to define what an employee wants from the employment relationship. One way to define employee needs is to consider “total rewards,” which are everything an employee perceives to be of value resulting from working for the company. Benefits are a core element of total rewards and the ever-growing package of offerings have evolved. You must now work with the company to define precisely where the various programs will be categorized.

Write a six-page paper in which you:

  • Identify and discuss at least three (3) important variables that almost always should be considered by organizations when providing employee benefits programs. Be sure the response is specific and relevant.
  • Compare and contrast income protection programs and pay for time not worked programs, both of which are usual elements of benefits programs. How are the programs similar? Are they mandatory?
  • Research and discuss at least four to five (4-5) of what may be referred as “Other Benefits” that you could recommend to the management team as necessary elements for the benefits package. HINT: Flextime and product/service discounts are good examples.
  • Develop an employee benefits package for any exempt or non-exempt position level of your choosing, making sure you support the selection of your program elements. NOTE: The preferred method for presenting your benefits package information is using a table or exhibit, but either approach is not mandatory. • Format your assignment according to these formatting requirements:
    1. Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format.
    2. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment (with running head), the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
    3. Include a reference page. Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.

Discussion 1

Lesson 1 Discussion Forum 1: Discussion 350 Words

Why is it important for HR management to transform from being primarily administrative and operational to a more strategic contributor?

Your discussion is to be submitted in 12-point Times New Roman font using APA format.  You must have a minimum of two sources to support your answer.

Reply to post:   250 Words

Organizational change is an important aspect within the management because it enables the managers to run daily operations in a manner that fits the current competitive environments. As such, the most affected organizational division is the human resource department. The working environment today is faced with a lot of dynamics rising to form the demands of the administration and the human resource. Thus, the management should be more strategic in meeting the demand of employees rather than being administrative and operational, so that there can be a balance in both cases. Human needs rapidly change within and without the workplace due to environmental, technological, and organizational changes (Kapoor n.d). Thus, the human resource management division should be in the front line to assist the members in adjusting to the changes in meeting the objectives of the organization. The presumption that the basic knowledge from education or experience is enough for task performance many not apply throughout. For instance, employees need to be trained so that they can adjust to new technologies and production techniques. Thus, prior knowledge may not apply in such new working environments. Hence, the only way the HRM department can help in dealing with such dynamic and emerging matters is by approaching the situation strategically, rather than operational and administrative. On a different note, this would help in advancing the competitiveness of the organization within the industry. Further, it helps as a motivating factor because of the changes in working environments.

Organizing HR Projects

Your company has had embedded HR generalists in business units for  the past several years. Over that time, it has become more costly and  more difficult to maintain standards, and is a frustration for business  units to have that budget “hit.” The leadership has decided to move to a  more centralized model of delivering HR services and has asked you to  evaluate that proposition and begin establishing a project team to  initiate the needed changes. The project team is selected, and you must  now provide general direction.

Instructions

Write a 5–6 page paper in which you:

  1. Review and define the five steps of strategic planning  depicted in Exhibit 2-1 in the textbook on page 34. Based on the  information, provide a statement of overall importance of these steps to  your project team.
  2. Develop a vision and mission statement for the project team  specific to the current project. Hint: It is highly recommended to  follow the guidance offered in the textbook about vision and mission  statements.
  3. Explain to the project team what a project charter is and why  it is used. Then, review Exhibit 3.3 in the textbook and select any  three charter elements you feel are more important and explain why.
  4. Provide a statement of emphasis to your project team based on  the information you provided in the previous three sections above. The  goal is to ensure your team understands the importance of the  information.
  5. Go to the Strayer University Online Library to locate at least three quality academic (peer-reviewed) resources for this assignment.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards  (SWS). For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer  Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Create an overview of project planning, a project vision and mission statement, a project charter, and a statement of emphasis.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Welcome to the second Case Assignment for this course. Please read the following article (along with the others in the required readings) and learn how Cessna went through a very substantial and well-documented quality initiative program to improve its logistics systems.

Morgan, J. P., (2002, June 6). Cessna aims to drive SCM to its very core. Purchasing, 131(10), 31-35. Retrieved on December 12, 2014, from ProQuest in the Trident Online Library.

Abstract:

When Michael R. Katzorke, vice president of supply management at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., began working on the company’s supply chain management system in 1998, Cessna was still a traditional aerospace firm. It had a functional orientation, was vertically integrated, had traditional processes and practices, and there was no provision for Total Quality Management or Six Sigma. To bring about the more fundamental and permanent changes they were seeking, Katzorke and his Cessna colleagues—both at the executive level and in supply management—have developed and deployed no fewer than twenty-one practices and tools aimed at: 1. driving the best possible supply-base rationalization decisions, 2. accelerating the supply-base rationalization process, 3. improving suppliers’ performance, and 4. integrating key suppliers with Cessna’s critical business, manufacturing, and design processes. Brief discussions of each of these steps are presented.

Case Assignment

For your Case Assignment, please research a different organization that has also gone through a major logistics quality initiative recently and write a 5- to 6-page case paper reviewing that process. Discuss why the company took on this initiative, what were the results, and how did this effort help improve the logistics/supply chain management in this company? Be sure to provide the different steps in this change process and any issues or problems that occurred.

Be sure to use at least three references. The references that you find must be recent (within the past 6 years) and they must be firsthand references. You may not use references that are other students’ research. AND you CANNOT use the same organization that you are using to write your SLP papers.

Assignment Expectations

Research the topic with information from the background readings as well as any other resources you find on your own. The paper should be 5–6 pages in length and have a cover sheet and a reference page. Clarity of presentation is important, as well as your ability to cover the topic in a succinct, organized manner with research to back up your points. Use at least 3 different sources of information and annotate your sources of information appropriately on your references page and within the text as necessary. You will be assessed on how well you apply your knowledge of quality control programs in a real-world situation. Submit your assignment for grading by the end of this module.

pp management

Discuss one or more famous or not so famous projects you have heard of and share your observations concerning success or failure.

Homework Question

Review the case study “Alaska Airlines: Navigating Change” and then complete the following: (a) State what actually occurred in the case regarding Kotter’s steps 5 and 6 of empowering employees for broad-based action and generating short-term wins, and (b) address each of the critical elements for Section II parts E and F in your change effort analysis. Make sure to include your recommendations for implementing Kotter’s steps 5 and 6.

E. Enable Action by Removing Barriers

  1. Identify the forces, barriers, and hindrances to the organizational change effort, and describe each.
  2. How can resistance be recognized? How will you eliminate resistance or mitigate its impact on the implementation of the change plan?
  3. Describe actions that will enable and empower employees to help drive the change effort.

F. Generate Short-Term Wins

  1. Determine how you will generate short-term wins. How will you reward these wins?
  2. What can be gained from short-term wins? Support your response.

Presentation

This week’s assignment contains an imaginary scenario in which you will demonstrate your knowledge of the concepts presented in this course.

Scenario:

Your friend, an 8th-grade earth science teacher at the local middle school, is organizing an Earth Day celebration for his students and their families. He knows you have recently been learning about environmental policies in this environmental science class and has asked you to be one of several guest speakers at the event. He would like you to explain to the students how scientific research and public awareness of an environmental issue led to an environmental policy or law. The goal is for the 8th-grade students to understand how people and communities (scientific community, government bodies, citizens of a country, etc.) can effect positive change for the environment.

Use the policy and issue you selected for your Wk 5 Discussion – Environmental Policies in Action.

Prepare a 3-to 4-minute video and/or audio recording, or a 1,050- to 1,750-word transcript of your presentation.

Address the following in your presentation:

  • Summarize the environmental issue. What are its causes? What are the effects on the environment and people? Consider multiple perspectives and locations, as applicable.
  • Explain how economics and/or personal lifestyle choices or behaviors are related to this issue.
  • Describe how individuals, communities, and/or governments have worked to address the issue.
  • Examine the impact of relevant legislation or initiatives. What are the benefits? Have there been any consequences?

Note: Remember your audience; the presentation needs to make sense and appeal to 13- and 14-year-old students.

Include at least 2 outside resources to support your conclusions.

Health Administration essay

This course address costs, access, quality, financing, workforce, and the Affordable Care Act. What is a health care issue that you are passionate about that will not be addressed in this course? Please write your 2 to 3 page issue brief on your issue, providing a description of the nature and scope of the issue, how it has been addressed if at all in the past, current efforts to address it, and other interesting aspects.

Your issue can be:

prescription drug spending, legalization of medical/recreational marijuana, opioid epidemic, surprise medical billing, interoperability of electronic health records, a national patient identifier, the impact of COVID-19 on any host of issues, mental health/substance abuse treatment, etc.
