Instructions

In this course, you will be creating templates each week that will celebrate your growing awareness of cultural diversity.  The template is a collection of images, videos, and reflections all centered on the weekly theme found in your unit Learning Content.  The template is divided into portions representing different aspects of the humanities including dance, music, literature, art, and others that will create a text reflecting your awareness of cultural diversity.

For the first unit, you will explore your unique contributions to cultural diversity.

Communicable diseases are a potential concern for the local, state, and federal governments, as well as public health officials and the community. Do you support or oppose laws such as California Senate Bill 277, a public health vaccination law requiring all children to be vaccinated before attending school? There are two parts to this, 1 is the annotated bibliography and 2 is the research paper.

Part 1

You will write a research paper that analyzes the hiring and selection process. You will conduct research and examine how a good hiring process can work to prevent voluntary employee separations. You will also conduct research about the various types of employee separations and the challenges that these can pose.

In preparation for your research paper you will locate four articles to support your paper. Your articles should focus on the following points:

· an explanation of the hiring process, a summary of the challenges in the hiring process, and an evaluation of the ways to meet the challenges in the hiring process;

· an appraisal of the tools that can be used in the selection process, and an assessment of how the hiring process can ultimately affect the other end of the spectrum—employee separations;

· a summary of the different types of employee separations; and

· a critique of how to effectively manage employee separations, downsizing/layoffs, and outplacement services.

Using Ebsco or another academic library, locate at least four peer-reviewed journal articles, one that supports each of the points listed above.

Submit a two- to three-page annotated bibliography of the four articles you will use to support your research paper for Unit VI. Include an explanation of how the sources were selected and how they are of value to the topic. Use APA style for your annotated bibliography.

Part 2

Reflect on the research you conducted for part 1, and write a research paper that addresses the following points:

· an explanation of the hiring process and a summary of the challenges in the hiring process;

· an evaluation of the ways to meet the challenges in the hiring process;

· an appraisal of the tools that can be used in the selection process;

· an assessment of how the hiring process can ultimately affect employee separations;

· a summary of the different types of employee separations; and

· a critique of how to effectively manage employee separations, downsizing/layoffs, and outplacement services.

Your research paper must be at least three pages in length, not counting the title and reference pages, and must include at least four peer-reviewed sources.

Be sure to support your research paper with the resources you located for your annotated bibliography. Use APA style for your research paper.

It can be difficult for a business to improve how it operates from inside the organization. Sometimes, an outside perspective is needed. The large discount retail store you work for wants to improve its in-store restaurant management team.

Your Role

Companies like Target and Walmart often work with outside consultants—people who are not employees of the company but who are hired on a contract basis to help with a specific project. As a Leadership Consultant, you’ve been hired by a large discount retail company to help the company improve its leadership structure and approach to management.

WHAT IS A LEADERSHIP CONSULTANT

A leadership consultant is a person called in to a company, be it a large corporation or a small business, to evaluate how it operates and make recommendations for improvement. Leadership consultants are typically hired when a business is struggling and needs to make changes in order to remain profitable. Such consultants are often highly educated in the field of business and have experience in managerial roles.

Step1 Organizationl Structure

Take a look at the Organization Chart provided by the company.

  • Based on your knowledge of hierarchies, would you say that this team has tall structure or flat structure? Explain your answer.

Step 2: Human Resources

The company would like to improve the culture of its team and the quality of its work. Its leadership has provided you with a Process Chart detailing how it currently applies Human Resources best practices.

  • What step of the Human Resources Cycle is missing? Explain why it is important to include this part of the process.

STEP 3: Leadership Style

You have been asked to help improve the leadership style of the team leader in order to meet the team’s performance goals. The team leader has given you a description of what is most comfortable in terms of leading others.

  • Identify this leader’s style of leadership, and list two benefits and two drawbacks to that style as it relates to the performance of the team

Step 4: Real-World Application

Apply the thinking in Steps 1-3 as if you were a Leadership Consultant hired by the company where you work or for a previous employer.

  • Consider the work conducted by the Human Resources team at your company. What steps of the Human Resources Cycle do they implement well? What steps of the Human Resources Cycle might be missing from your company or are not implemented as well as they could be? What is the effect of this on you and your team? Explain your answer.
  • Lastly, reflect on the leadership style of either yourself or your supervisor. What leadership style do you have, or what leadership style does your supervisor have?
