Incentive Program – Do they work?

Chapter 15 of our text talks about bucks for behavior.  We’ll be introduced to the notion that the type of behavior we reward is the type of behavior we will get.  Take a moment to contemplate this concept then look at your own or previous employers and the “bucks” you received.  What kind of behavior did the rewards you received prompt in you?  Emma wants to have a discussion on what kinds of behaviors various types of rewards will elicit in CM Tech employees.

  • In your initial discussion post share with your classmates three types of rewards (base pay, overtime pay, profit bonus, sales bonus, project bonuses, piece pay, vacation, the sky is really the limit.) and what kind of behavior you think each type of reward would elicit from CM Tech employees.  Do you think those three would be effective?  Why or why not?  In your responses to your peers expand on your agreement or disagreement with the behaviors the types of rewards would elicit and share any experiences you have had with the reward types the group has shared.
  • Support your initial post with at least one scholarly reference.

Due Friday by 4 pm

Read the following case first; then proceed to the next steps.

A major cosmetics company posted a position on a local jobs board looking for a sales representative. The posting stated “Established fortune 500 company has an immediate opening for sales representative in the New York area. Candidates should have 3 or more years of experience in the cosmetics industry and a proven track record of success in this field.”

Sara and Jim both applied for the position in New York City. Sara is 24 and has 3 years of experience with a rival cosmetics company in their marketing department. Jim has 18 years of experience as a cosmetics representative who has just recently been laid off and is 49 years old. The company decided to hire Sara; and during the interview process, Jim was told that the company thought women were better suited for the cosmetics industry. It was also alluded to during Jim’s interview that the company wanted younger people to promote their product line.

Jim filed a lawsuit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and after a year and a half of litigation, Jim was awarded the job. During this time, Sara had been a very successful employee; however, with only one position available, the company had to fire Sara.

Step 2: Reflection Part

Think about the following:

  • Was this a proper decision by the EEOC?
  • If you worked for the EEOC, how would you have decided on this case? Explain your reasoning.

After you have thought through your position on this scenario, apply your thinking to this week’s philosophers and complete Step 3 – the writing part of this assignment.

Step 3: Writing Part

In 2 pages, explain how Machiavelli and Hobbes would explain the role of the government in this case if they were confronted with this situation. How might they apply the use of power to illustrate their philosophy? Support your analysis with quotes or paraphrases from the philosophers. Use APA format and citation when writing your assignment.

humn 8660 capstone project

The application of social change, leadership, and advocacy to a specific human and social services organization is a systematic process. The initial step is to select and delineate a professional or societal issue about which you are passionate, and then locate an organization from anywhere in the world whose mission is related to this issue. Once you determine the issue and organization that you will focus on, the next step is to set a manageable social change, leadership, or advocacy-related goal for the organization.

Human services professionals can strive to achieve and/or support social change, leadership, or advocacy-related goals by creating a strategic plan. Throughout this course, you will develop the core elements of a strategic plan for your Capstone Project. You build off the coursework you completed in previous courses to conduct a needs assessment as well as develop the fundamentals, strategic issues, and technical elements of the strategic plan.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources, considering strategies and approaches that human and social services professionals may use to achieve social change, leadership, and advocacy goals.
  • Review the Capstone Project Overview in the Course Information area and the Final Project: Developing a Strategic Plan – Introduction to the Final Project media in the Weekly Resources. Select one professional or societal issue that arouses your passion as a human and social services professional, and then choose a human or social services agency or organization, or a community, that works to support this issue. This can be a local, regional, national, or international agency, organization, or community. Throughout the completion of your Capstone Project, you will explore this issue and agency in depth, examining them from multiple perspectives. Therefore, you should select an agency, organization, or community issue that speaks to you as a human and social services professional.

By Day 4

Identify the agency, organization, or community for which you will develop a strategic plan. State whether the agency, organization, or community exists at the local, regional, national, or international level. Then, discuss why you have chosen this agency to focus on for your Capstone Project. Also, discuss whether your strategic plan will be developed from the perspective of social change, leadership, or advocacy for the agency, organization, or community. Explain why you have chosen to focus on that particular perspective for your strategic plan.
