HR CHALLENGE: CONTEMPORARY ISSUE

Introduction

In your work as an HRM professional, you will often encounter situations where current events, issues, and technologies impact your work with the employees and systems in human resources. This assignment asks you to take a broad look at the human resources spectrum of topics and select a current, law-related topic. You will then analyze and assess the ethical ramifications of the issue in the workplace.

Scenario

Your supervisor has asked you to research some of the latest law-related trends in human resources so that the team can project ahead to scientific, technical, or social trends that might impact the workplace in the near future. This is intended to be a background research project—you will present your findings in a 3–4-page memorandum to your supervisor that might also be shared with other HRM executives.

Your Challenge

You are an HRM professional who is tasked with researching at least one law-related article about a current issue in human resources and writing a memorandum about the background research that you have completed.

Instructions

1. Write a memorandum to your supervisor describing and analyzing a contemporary scientific, technical, or social issue impacting the workplace. Select your issue from the list below. You may use the listed article as your required resource.

EEOC-Discrimination by Type

Age Discrimination

Race/Color Discrimination

Inclusion and Diversity

Respect Culture

Whistle-Blowers

LGBTQ Protections

Gun Violence at Work

Social Media at Work

2. Research the topic you selected using the law-related article associated with the issue from the list. Support your assertions with citations from your course readings, workplace examples, and any relevant additional research.

3. Address the following elements in your issue synopsis:

  • Describe your chosen contemporary scientific, technical, or social issue, including how it has impacted the workplace.
  • Analyze how your issue influenced or could influence employee productivity in your own current or former organization. Be sure to keep the organization anonymous.
  • Explain the impact of your issue from your perspective of an HRM executive.
  • Assess how relevant legislation affects your issue in the workplace.
  • Assess the ethical ramifications of your issue on HRM practices in the workplace.

4. Review the HR Challenge: Contemporary Issue Scoring Guide before submitting this assignment to ensure that you have thoroughly addressed the grading criteria.

Kotter 8 steps to change

Think of a recent change that happened in your organization. Try to focus on a large change, not just a small change in artifacts, such as a form. It might be a policy change, a change in leadership, a change in organizational goals. Think about how it was implemented.

Based on Kotter’s 8 steps, describe the change. Did your organization follow each step? If so, describe how. If not, describe how “skipping” that step may have impacted the change and how employees responded to it. Use at least two class resources in your post. Remember to cite correctly.

Wk 2, HCS 341: Legal, Safety, and Regulatory Requirements Paper

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper that examines the effect of legal, safety, and regulatory requirements on the human resources process. Your paper should focus on employee-related regulations established by the United States, such as the Department of Labor, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Include your thoughts on the following statement:

  • “Common sense and compassion in the workplace have been replaced by litigation.”

Cite at least 3 references.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

Please identify subheadings and conclusion

Research Paper

I need the last portion of the paper to explore one research method that could be used in proposed study.

Mode of Domestic Transportation in Logistics

Road, rail, marine, and air transport in U.S. logistics have been the main options. Today, newer technologies have expanded each of the categories beyond the usual alternatives. The Department of Transportation approved driverless technology for local delivery. The possibility of 30-minute delivery calls for the use of robots and drones. Some other tech is being patented and might be realized in the future. Other companies are looking at delivery robots. Even low-tech ideas like “cargo bikes” are being used in large cities

SLP Assignment

  • -Beginning with the background readings to provide a foundation, create a bullet list of the pros and cons of domestic road, rail, marine, and air transport in logistics. (Citations are required.)
The list should be one, single-spaced page in length.
  • -Using research beyond the lecture and readings, provide two real-world examples of novel modes of delivery being used, tested, or proposed and how they could affect the industry regarding technology, workers, customer service, costs, etc.
The discussion for each new technology should be three-quarters of a page in length.

Resources should be no more than three years old for this case because the industry is changing rapidly, and the goal is to remain relevant throughout your career.

Module 2 SLP Background Readings

The Future of the Movement of Goods (2019)

The Business Value of Managed Transportation Services (2019)

The Elevated Future of Mobility: What’s Next on the Horizon? (2019)

Are Cities Ready with the Infrastructure Needed for Urban Air Transportation? (2019)

Maritime Administration Awards $6.7 Million in Grants for Marine Highway Projects Throughout the U.S. (2019)

Could Drone Deliveries Help the Environment? Let’s Unpack That (2019)

Hunger Games: Managing Food Logistics Challenges When Demand Spikes (2019)

Trucking & Freight Markets 360° (2019)

Since you are engaging in research, be sure to cite and reference the sources in APA format. The paper should be written in the third person; this means words like “I,” “we,” and “you” are not appropriate. For more information, see Differences Between First and Third Person. The excessive use of quotes or unoriginal content will directly impact performance since it suggests lack of comprehension and indicates that a student may not have mastered the concepts.

For Discussion

  • Select a company and identify its mission statement.  Using this week’s course readings, explain whether the company has  a good mission statement.  Discuss whether the company has a successful vision statement.  If so, is the vision statement a good vision according to the course materials?  Why or why not.
  • Many organizations talk about how there is a need to develop a new strategy, but unfortunately do not clearly understand the difference between developing a strategy and establishing a new plan.  Using the course readings, clearly define the difference between a Strategy and a Plan.
  • Differentiate between Goals and Objectives and explain how managers use these to support the organizational plan.  Give examples.
