Nursing: Essentials of Evidence-Based Practice

The article discusses the basis for this quandary, providing examples of the real-world impact it has on diagnosis-seeking and treatment decision-making behaviors and how it might inform implementation of EBM practices.

Neuman Systems models discussion question

Discussion Question:

Neuman Systems Models is a flexible and adaptive model which can be applied to various aspects of nursing disciplines. Today, the model is used globally as a nursing conceptual model to guide curriculum development, research studies, and clinical practice in the full array of health-care disciplines.

Define a nursing practice area where you could apply Neuman Systems Model. What patient population would you target? How would you use this model to guide best practices? How would nursing outcomes be determined? Use at least one current research article related to your practice example.

Your initial posting should be at least 400 words in length and utilize at least one scholarly source other than the textbook. Please reply to at least two classmates. Replies to classmates should be at least 200 words in length.

BHS380 Module 3 Discussion Post 2

1. Directly respond to at least one classmate in a way that extends meaningful discussions, adds new information, and/or offers alternative perspectives.

Research shows that the U.S. spends the most money on health care compared to other high-income countries. Although the United States spends more money, United States citizens’ health quality is lower.

The United States is the lowest ranking for overall quality of health out of the eleven high income countries. Canada is ranked number 9 out of 11. The United States and Canada are similar when comparing aspects of their healthcare system. For example, both countries are ranked below average for access to health care, equity, and health care outcomes. Additionally, Canada and the United States are ranked above average for care processes related to prevention, safety, and engagement from patients and doctors. For administrative efficiency, Canada ranks above the average while the U.S. remains below average. (The Commonwealth Fund 2017)

One major difference between Canada and the United States is that Canada provides universal health care and the U.S. does not. Non-citizens living in the United States may not qualify to receive health care. As for Canada, temporary visitors and immigrants are eligible for limited health care benefits. Medications Used to Treat Mental Illness

You are a nurse at an outpatient clinic and are presented with a 68-year-old female client.  She is experiencing the following symptoms: decreased appetite, disturbed sleep pattern, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, disordered thought process, anhedonia, guilt, and low self-esteem. The doctor diagnoses the client with major depressive disorder.  Answer the following questions:

  • What medication do you think is likely to be prescribed for this client and why?
  • What are some important teachings you would give this client when administering the first dose?
  • When following up with the client 2 months later.  What are some changes you may expect to see with the client? If the client is not displaying the expected outcomes, what are some possible alternatives for the client?

Week 6: Reflection on Learning

 Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to provide the student an opportunity to reflect on the weekly concepts learned in the course.

Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Examine roles and competencies of advanced practice nurses essential to performing as leaders and advocates of holistic, safe, and quality care (CO1)
  2. Apply concepts of person-centered care to nursing practice situations. (CO2)
  3. Analyze essential skills needed to lead within the context of complex systems. (CO3)
  4. Explore the process of scholarship engagement to improve health and healthcare outcomes in various settings (CO4)

Requirements:

Reflection: write 1-2 paragraphs reflecting on your learning for the week. Guiding questions are provided or you may write about what you felt was most significant to you for the week.

You will need to post your reflection here before you are able to see other students’ posts.

  • As you contemplate your future NP practice, how do you view your role in the implementation of EBP?
  • What thoughts do you have about how you will engage in scholarship in your NP role?
  • What are some barriers you see to implementing evidence-based practice?

Answer the following questions to the best of your ability:

  1. If you      were in charge of implementing a sweeping reorganization of the CDC, what      management relationship behaviors would you use? Who would you target with      these behaviors?
  2. If you      are a female, is there a need to act differently when you manage the      relationships in an all-male leadership group?
  3. If you      are a male, is there a reason for a woman to act differently if she is in      a relationship with you.
  4. Based      on the case example in chapter 9 does the fact that Dr. Gerberding has      expressed her own experience with discrimination make it more or less      likely that she did not manage her relationship with the all-male      management team well?
