epidemiological

Describe one other epidemiological threat that has been in the news in the past 2 years that is not influenza. Discuss how this threat affected the community, including local, state, and federal resources that were brought in to restore normal business and life. Include any media examples that discussed either good or poor reactions by stakeholders and approximately how long the area was directly impacted compared to the previous historical timelines for this type of threat. Provide supporting references for your response. PLEASE ADD IN-TEXT CITATION AND REFERENCE

Practicum – Week 5 Journal Entry

Students will:
  • Develop effective documentation skills for family therapy sessions *
  • Develop diagnoses for clients receiving family psychotherapy *
  • Evaluate the efficacy of solution-focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy for families *
  • Analyze legal and ethical implications of counseling clients with psychiatric disorders *

Select two clients you observed or counseled this week during a family therapy session. Note: The two clients you select must have attended the same family session. Do not select the same family you selected for Week 2.

Then, address in your Practicum Journal the following:

  • Using the Group Therapy Progress Note in this week’s Learning Resources, document the family session.
  • Describe each client (without violating HIPAA regulations) and identify any pertinent history or medical information, including prescribed medications.
  • Using the DSM-5, explain and justify your diagnosis for each client.
  • Explain whether solution-focused or cognitive behavioral therapy would be more effective with this family. Include expected outcomes based on these therapeutic approaches.
  • Explain any legal and/or ethical implications related to counseling each client.
  • Support your approach with evidence-based literature.

DiscussionCJ

Post a clinically relevant research question using the PICOT format.  How did you arrive at this topic and question?  Why is it important?  ( “what are the new and appropriate wound care methods?”  This question’s uniqueness is to develop an evidence-based practice supported with current knowledge about a proper and new way of wound care, treatment )

Expectations

Initial Post:

  • Length: A minimum of 250 words, not including references
  • Citations: At least one high-level scholarly reference in APA format from within the last 5 years

Please read below for  guidelines and instructions.

See USU NUR Discussion Board Rubric for additional details and point weighting.PICOT stands for:

  • Population/ Patient Problem: Who is your patient? (Disease or Health status, age, race, sex)
  • Intervention: What do you plan to do for the patient? (Specific tests, therapies, medications)
  • Comparison: What is the alternative to your plan? (ie. No treatment, different type of treatment, etc.)
  • Outcome: What outcome do you seek? (Less symptoms, no symptoms, full health, etc.)
  • Time:  What is the time frame? (This element is not always included.)

Your PICOT question will fall under one of these types:

  • Therapy/Prevention
  • Diagnosis
  • Etiology
  • Prognosis

Use the PICOT format to break down your question into smaller parts and identify keywords:

Who are the relevant patients? Think about age, sex, geographic location, or specific characteristics that would be important to your question. What is the management strategy, diagnostic test, or exposure that you are interested in?Is there a control or alternative management strategy you would like to compare to the intervention or indicator? What are the patient-relevant consequences of the intervention? What time periods should be considered?  What study types are most likely to have the information you seek?  What clinical domain does your question fall under?

The clinic questions are very doable capstone projects. Prior students have pursued both. An interesting blog on wound care in 2020: https://www.todayswoundclinic.com/articles/how-wound-care-may-change-better-and-worse-2020

NUTRITION

Malnutrition associated with specific health conditions What specific health conditions increase the risk of malnutrition?

Example Studies: Malnutrition in a sample of people with Parkinson’s disease.

Risk of malnutrition is associated with mental health symptoms

Case Study

The case study demonstrates a role related and ethical conundrum when the nurse is taking care of an end stage aggressive lung cancer patient, Mr. Wilson, who expressed suicidal intentions to the nurse and asked to keep the secret from his family and the hospital staff.

If the nurse knows of Mr. Wilsons’ plan for rational suicide, would the nurse be obligated to intervene? If so, what actions could the nurse take at this point? Does a nurse have the right to try to stop a person from committing rational suicide (to act in the best interest of the patient)? Is a nurse supposed to support the person’s autonomous decision to commit rational suicide? even when that decision is morally and religiously incompatible with the nurse’s perspective? What is the nurse’s role?

The case study must be typed in APA format with a minimum of 750 words (excluding first and references page) with a minimum of 4 evidence-based references using the required Arial 12 font.

Case Study: Through the Eyes of the Patient and the Health Care Professional

Allied health professionals are confronted with different death and dying practices. An effective allied health professional recognizes the importance of understanding different cultural practices, and learns how to evaluate the death, dying, and spiritual beliefs and practices across the cultures.

Read the two specified case histories and choose one for this assignment.

Chapter 4, “Stories of Abby: An Ojibwa Journey” and Chapter 14, “Stories of Shanti: Culture and Karma,” by Gelfland, Raspa, and Sherylyn, from End-of-Life Stories: Crossing Disciplinary Boundaries (2005), from the GCU Library.

Identify your role as a health care professional in supporting Abby’s or Shanti’s dying rituals, and in creating strategies for displaying respect while still providing quality care. Identify communication strategies necessary in caring for your select person. Integrate your strategies as you develop a care plan describing how you would approach the situation and care for the patient. Review the “Care Plan” template prior to beginning.

Include the following in your care plan:

  1. Communication: family and patient
  2. Treatment options that align with the specific culture
  3. Education: family and patient
  4. Family roles in the process
  5. Spiritual beliefs
  6. Barriers
  7. Cultural responses
  8. Any additional components that you feel would need to be addressed (from your perspective as a health care professional)

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Great response Maria. Thank you for sharing further details as they relate to the concepts behind Hildegard Peplau’s theory of Interpersonal Relations. I too find that building a trusting relationship between nurse and patient to be quite beneficial when working towards optimizing patient outcomes. Within your response you mentioned, “First, I have come to appreciate the importance of applying the principle of human relations in my nursing practice. I always ensure I bond with my patients in a way that they feel open to open up to me about what they are going through.” In what ways are you able to apply elements from Peplau’s theory into practice, what are the strategies implemented? Also, what impact has this had on patient outcomes and satisfaction?

The Watson theory of caring is one that appeals most to my nursing philosophy. The theory argues that caring is the fundamental pillar of the nursing profession. The changing health care system has affected the ability of nurses to engage in a caring and develop a meaningful relationship with the patients that enhances healing. Among the reasons for the change is the use of technology as well as the increasing workload. Technology has been adopted as an alternative to primary care in most organizations. This is especially the reality as health care organizations try to save on costs which has led to a reduction of the personal engagement with the patients. The increased workload has also affected the ability of the nurses to set aside the needed time with the patients. Some nurses have to juggle several tasks and are forced to spend the minimal time possible with some of their patients. The Watson theory of caring calls for authentic presence and recognize the importance of the same in facilitating healing (Norman et al., 2016). Therefore, it is important that nurt5ses and nursing organizations remember that the core pillar of the profession is caring. Therefore, the use of technology as a substitute for primary care should be limited and there is a need to provide authentic presence to help the patients during the healing process.
