Topic: C-T-E

Conceptual-Theory-Empirical (C-T-E) formalization is a way to analyze research by systematically testing or generating theory. The function of theory is to help us better understand the world. The C-T-E system is a whole system of nursing knowledge. Review the holarchy of nursing knowledge, note its application to real-world practice.

Writing in the voice of your chosen theorist, describe the Conceptual-Theory-Empirical (C-T-E) structure process you used in creating your theory?

Week 2 Ethical Frameworks Essay

Consider the “Four Topics Approach” (or Four Box method) to ethical decision making on page 61, Table 2.1 in Butts (below).  Apply this model to a challenging situation in your nursing career that required you to consider the ethical dimensions of the patient case and the role you played in providing care. Specifically apply and address the questions within each topic area as they pertain to your situation.

In your conclusion, discuss the impact of the Four Topics process. Did applying these principles shape your decision making in any way?  Does this seem like a valid process for you to apply in your practice?

Your paper should be 1-2 pages. Adhere to APA formatting throughout, and cite any outside sources you may use.

Review the rubric for further information on how your assignment will be graded.

Discussion: Psychotherapeutic Approaches to Group Therapy with Children and Adolescents

Group therapy may be beneficial for children and adolescents, because it often provides an environment that normalizes clients’ thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. However, as with any therapeutic approach, group therapy might not be appropriate for every client, every setting, or even every therapist. When selecting therapies, you must always consider the psychodynamics of the client and your own skill set.

This week, as you assess and develop diagnoses for clients presenting for child and adolescent group psychotherapy, you examine the effectiveness of this therapeutic approach. You also consider legal and ethical implications of counseling children and adolescent clients with psychiatric disorders.

Learning Objectives

Students will:
  • Assess clients presenting with disruptive behavior
  • Analyze group therapeutic approaches for treating clients presenting with disruptive behavior
  • Evaluate outcomes for clients presenting with disruptive behavior
To prepare:
  • Review this week’s Learning Resources and reflect on the insights they provide.
  • Read the case study I am Feeling Like I’m Going Crazy
  • For guidance on assessing the client, refer to pages 137-142 of the Wheeler text in this week’s Learning Resources.

By Day 3

Post an explanation of the most likely DSM-5 diagnosis for the client in the case study. Be sure to link those behaviors to the criteria in the DSM-5. Then, explain group therapeutic approaches you might use with this client.  Explain expected outcomes for the client based on these therapeutic approaches. Finally consider legal and ethical implications of counseling children and adolescent clients with psychiatric disorders. Support your approach with evidence-based literature.

The Role of the DNP Scholar in Preparing for Change

As our population continues to rise along with life expectancy, large cadres of nursing practice and research scholars are needed to address the pressing healthcare issues in our society.  Utilization of nursing inquiry and the ability to translate evidence into practice for the betterment of patient care and overall outcomes is key.  Additionally, they are well prepared to address system challenges and concerns and implement changes for improvement here as well. The work of the cadre will enhance the translation of evidence into practice, with the utilization of learned quality improvement methodologies aimed to both improve and transform the delivery of healthcare (Trautman et al., 2018).

In an effort to lead clinical innovation the cadre needs to become strong leaders and influencers.  They are positioned to negotiate and work highly groups to effect change with the implementation of any or all aspects of nursing inquiry (Fuller & Hansen, 2019).  Forming professional relationships through networking is also beneficial.  These relationships afford the person leading change a consortium of resources to support and assist with change.

Simply implementing a change in any type of environment is rarely successful and/or sustainable.  Providing the audience with the evidence and outcomes when implementing a desired change in practice is important.  We as healthcare workers should be providing care with a patient centered approach and possess a common desire to attain high quality and safety outcomes.  As leaders of change, we must possess strong self-awareness along with the characteristic of approachability and adaptability.  As we implement changes, we along with our teams, can identify limitations and make adjustments according for optimal results.
