View the scenario called “Critical Decision Making for Providers” found in the Allied Health Community media.

In a 1,000-1,250-word paper, examine the scenario involving Mike, the lab technician, and discuss the following:

1. Discuss the consequences of a failure to report.
2. Explain the impact his decision had on patient safety and organizational performance (risk for litigation, organization’s quality metrics, workload of other hospital departments, etc.).

Healthcare Informatics in Primary Care Pediatrics

The focus of this assignment is to increase your knowledge and understanding of how informatics, specifically the electronic medical record, improves the pediatric patient health outcomes. Caring for the pediatric patient has unique elements that are not applicable in the adult population. Examples are growth and development surveillance, vaccine records, transitional changes that affect “normal findings” by age group. For example, the normal respiratory rate of a newborn is significantly different from a 10-year-old. Additionally, pediatric healthcare providers are expected to educate parents with “anticipatory guidance” according to the age of the patient. For this assignment, you are expected to analyze the utilization of the EMR that you are using in your clinical practicum and evaluate how this particular EMR system is improving health outcomes. For example, does the EMR that you are using have mechanisms in place that track growth and development, which has led to early identification of abnormals?

This assignment has three parts. The first part is identifying the recommended pediatric-specific functionalities of the EMR system you are using. The template will guide you through the first part of the assignment by addressing a sample of key functionalities.

Part 2 addresses some basic functions that would be recommended in any non-specific EMR.

Part 3 asks you to discuss how your system is addressing certain outcomes such as safety, collaboration, and the prevention of medication errors.

Variables/Hypotheses/Questions/Assumptions

• What are the independent and dependent variables in this study?
• Are the operational definitions of the variables given? If so, are they concrete and measurable?
• Is the research question or the hypothesis stated? What is it?

Methodology

• What type of design (quantitative, qualitative, and type) was used in this study?
• Was inductive or deductive reasoning used in this study?
• State the sample size and study population, sampling method, and study setting.
• Did the investigator choose a probability or non-probability sample?
• State the type of reliability and the validity of the measurement tools.
• Were ethical considerations addressed?

Data Analysis

• What data analysis tool was used?
• How were the results presented in the study?
• Identify at least one (1) finding.

Summary/Conclusions, Implications, and Recommendations

• What are the strengths and limitations of the study?
• In terms of the findings, can the researcher generalize to other populations? Explain.
• Evaluate the findings and conclusions as to their significance for nursing.

The body of your paper should be 4–6 double-spaced pages plus a cover page and a reference page. The critique must be attached to the article and follow APA guidelines.

Introduction

While treating the chronically ill, a major challenge is developing a plan of care that addresses the specific needs of a patient and a caregiver. You need to be in close touch with patients and their support group, family and peers, to come up with an ideal plan.

In this course project, you are going to develop a plan of care for a chronic illness group of your choice using the Healthy People 2020 topics. While executing the tasks of this project, remember that while you need to give a general overview of the biomedical considerations of the case, the focus should always be on the psychosocial elements. Your perspective in this care plan should be the patient’s goals rather than those of the medical team.

Each week, you will complete a part of this project, submitting the final project in Week 5.

Identifying a Group

Identify a chronic illness of specific interest to you that is also identified as a Healthy People 2020 topic (healthypeople.gov). In a Microsoft Word document of 4-5 pages formatted in APA style, address the following criteria:

·  Identify a chronic illness and rationale for choice.

·  Develop a questionnaire by utilizing your knowledge of health and illness, with the aim of acquiring all information you need from patients to prepare a plan of care for the specific illness group.

·  Discuss morbidity and comorbidity of the disease.

·  Discuss the impact of the chronic illness and patient morbidity on overall health of the nation.

·  Incorporate Healthy People 2020 goals and objectives for the specific illness group.
