Assignment Description:

Write a 1000-1500-word APA paper addressing each of the following points. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least three (3) outside sources and the textbook using citations in your essay. Make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay. Case Study: Mrs. Adams, a 68-year-old widow who was referred to case management upon discharge from the hospital based on her physician’s recommendation that she is not able to care for herself independently. Her diagnosis is diabetes, hypertension, and breast cancer. She is 5 days’ post-op from a right sided mastectomy.   Mrs. Adams apartment is located in a low-income area of the city where crime is prevalent.  Upon assessment by the Community Health Nurse, Mrs. Adams apartment was in disorder with minimal airflow or light. Her clothes appeared unchanged and she had no food in the apartment.  The small apartment also housed 3 cats and a small dog who Mrs. Adams considers family since the death of her husband 1 year ago. Mrs. Adams complains of pain and draining from her surgical site and a broken air conditioner. 

• Using Nightingale’s Environmental Theory, what actions would the nurse take upon the first assessment? What are the five essential components?
• What would be an appropriate plan of care be for Mrs. Adams? How would you prioritize the care plan?
• Apply Nightingale’s Environmental Theory to an area of your nursing practice?  What patient-population would benefit from this approach?  Support this practice change with at least one evidenced-based article.

  Sometimes nursing can be impacted by research such as the IOM report regarding BSN level nurses vs. AD nurses. While some facilities help AD nurses go back to school, others are not or have more need than for nurses and cannot only employ BSN level nurses. Scientists from the Coalition of Concerned Scientists claim that fresh water is going to be the scarcest resource on the planet in 50 years. This claim, though alarming, is based only on a single study performed in the Appalachian Mountains over a span of 10 years. The study involved testing the percentage and availability of fresh, drinkable water along the mountain range once every April for 10 years. The study has many citizens concerned this could mark the beginning of a slippery slope, and many are beginning to think irrationally about how to maintain an abundance of clean water. As a well-respected environmental blogger, many have come to you looking for answers, and while you may not have the solutions they want, you do believe you can prove that the Coalition of Concerned Scientists study is riddled with fallacies.

Step 2: Examine the presence of fallacy.

Create content for a two to three-page (minimum) blog entry aimed at easing the anxiety of your readership, address the following statements:

• What type of argument is being presented? How does that differ or coincide with the fallacy form?
• What fallacy or fallacies are present in the Coalition of Concerned Scientists’ claim? What are the ramifications of the fallacy or fallacies within this scenario?
• By what criteria can you distinguish between arguments and fallacies? In the case of the Coalition of Concerned Scientists study, what improvements would transform this into a viable argument?

1. In response to federal policy and service requirements, health insurance plans are increasingly developing high-deductible insurance policies and narrow networks. These types of policies require the consumer to pay more out-of-pocket. To portray this in a positive light, this trend has been labeled as “consumer-based” to suggest that the consumer must pay more from their own funds and, thus, encourage consumers to make better health care choices. However, this could be labeled as a burden on the consumer.

   Write a 350- to 525-word article that identifies and evaluates the impact that federal or state health care policies are having on consumer costs. Explore both positive and negative effects.

   Include a citation of your article in your assignment.

   Cite 3 reputable references to support your assignment (e.g., trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, or other sources of similar quality).

    

Medicare or Medicaid – which has greater impact in your state?

In the state of Florida, it seems that Medicaid has a greater impact. The fact that Medicaid benefits are funded by the state and federal program play a huge role as to how much the state is impacted. Medicaid as we all know covers adults with children with low income, disabled, pregnant women and elderly 65 years and older (Flexer, S. 2017, February 9). In 2019 it was reported that the total low-income population was 31% and Medicaid was covering for 19% of the low-income population (Medicaid in Florida [PDF]).  

   Medicaid benefits vary between states but it makes the greatest impact overall due to the fact that they cover from children to adults who are in need of health care. Benefits of the Medicaid program are that it decreases the uninsured populations giving them access to health care as long as they are eligible. Medicaid programs also assist in reducing poverty rates, reduces patient medical care debts and is efficient to those patients that are low income and need medical care in an economic crisis (Manatt, P. 2019, July 26).  

   Moreover, it is expected for Medicaid benefits to be expanded in the future in order to reduce society and low-income population debt as well as state budget savings. It is predicted that if Florida Medicaid expands then they will save about $900 million dollars in budget (Medicaid. (n.d.).

Students are encouraged to create portfolios and begin to “manage” their careers. When you began a college education you took the first step. You now need to begin to reflect on the next goal, then medium, and long-term goals. I did not complete my final degree until well into my 50’s. And that is fine, I loved my health care career. I was eager to care for patients and did not leave direct patient care for many decades. I did know the time would come to do so however, and began to earn the college degrees I would need at the proper time. This is what is meant by managing your career. This is an entry level program. It is designed to assist you in getting your “foot in the door” where you can learn valuable clinical skills. A common and important degree is the Bachelor of Health Information Management (BS-HIM). This is a reflective assignment. After you have earned your Associate Degree, what would you like to do next?
