Paper

The needs of the pediatric patient differ depending on age, as do the stages of development and the expected assessment findings for each stage. In a 500-750-word paper, examine the needs of a school-aged child between the ages of 5 and 12 years old and discuss the following:

  1. Compare the physical assessments among school-aged children. Describe how you would modify assessment techniques to match the age and developmental stage of the child.
  2. Choose a child between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. Identify the age of the child and describe the typical developmental stages of children that age.
  3. Applying developmental theory based on Erickson, Piaget, or Kohlberg, explain how you would developmentally assess the child. Include how you would offer explanations during the assessment, strategies you would use to gain cooperation, and potential findings from the assessment.

Peer Response

Peers’  Response:

From the video speech by Graham Hill: Why I am a weekday vegetarian, the main topic of discussion is why I am a weekday vegetarian where the speaker talks about a program to reduce a footprint. From the speech, the targeted audiences are the people willing to change to be vegetarians too. That is maybe the people who like other foodstuffs other than vegetables but are willing to turn back to veg. this is because of his program promotion of weekday veg. on the other hand, the thesis of the speaker’s topic is how human beings can slowly give up on the life of eating meat daily and change to be vegetarians in their life. The speaker vividly used the logos in the speech where he, first of all, considered both sides that is; he checked into the life of vegetables and the life of meat then decided to propose the vegetable life. On the other side, the speaker also has applied the use of ethos when he gave the research where he found that people taking hamburgers are getting closer to their grave by 1/3 and this shows how he is contented with the topic of speech. Pathos was also well applied where he talks about the slaughter of animals. One of the persuasive techniques used by the speaker is when he mentioned that if I don’t stop using humbugged, then I’m moving next to mu grave by a third. The speaker did not use the aids of visual, however; he used facial expressions to show how he felt about meat. The defective persuasion used by the speaker is when he left the audience with an option to choose between veg and meat. He persuaded me to listen to the speech just by saying some words like eating hamburger increases the risk of death. This made me to be so much keen on the speech.

In the response post, based on your classmate’s review of the speech, include the following:

  • Was the speaker’s use of ethos, logos, and pathos effective?
  • How did the speaker use presentation aids?
  • Was the delivery of the speech effective? Why or why not?
  • Were you convinced?

Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format

Answer a post from my classmate (Alcohol Abuse)

The practice problem that I discussed in weeks 1 and 2 was alcohol abuse. Alcohol abuse is a major problem globally and locally for my home state as well. Common barriers in addressing this problem are lack of treatment facilities, patient’s reluctance to seek help, treatment compliance, high potential for relapses, perceived treatment efficacy, and perceived treatment need (Pinedo, Zemore, & Rogers, 2018). Alcohol use has continued to increase over the past decades and is predicted to continue increasing as well worldwide (Shield, Manthey, Rylett, Probst, Wettlaufer, Parry, & Rehm, 2020). This expected increase is even a bigger problem than the barriers for treatment. The real question in battling this practice problem should be why is this practice problem expected to increase and what can we to do prevent this? Yes, that sounds simple in theory, however alcohol abuse has been a problem for many decades and we still yet don’t have an answer to this or a solution.

Strategies to adopt awareness of new evidence for this practice problem would be educating the public on the dangers of alcohol and how it can lead to alcohol abuse. I think this is the first step for primary prevention of the problem. Regarding patient’s that this is already a problem in, strategies that might help to overcome some of the issues that we face as barriers might include opening more treatment facilities and doing our best to remove the stigma that is associated with addiction. I think as primary care providers it is also useful to implement questionnaires that could lead to the identification of alcohol abuse such as the cage questionnaire. By being able to identify alcohol abuse in our patient’s we are able to talk to them about alcohol abuse, options for treatment, and potential complications for the future (Taylor Jr, El-Sabawi, & Cangin, 2016).

I think the regarding alcohol use it is important to be implement all of these strategies. Alcohol abuse is a problem that affects people both physically and mentally. It also affects not only the patient themselves but the family members and friends of this patient. It is important to implement all of this evidence because this practice problem needs to include prevention and treatment. Prevention is necessary to hopefully decrease this problem or prevent it from getting worse. Treatment is needed for the already high numbers of patient’s that are suffering from this problem. As far as the continuation or sustainability of these changes that can be difficult to ensure. By providing more treatment facilities, this does ensure that we have more places for people to be seen for this practice problem. By implementing the cage questionnaires, this also helps to identify problems early on or problems in people that don’t see their alcohol use as a problem. However, alcohol abuse is a problem that requires the patient to be ready as well for this to be successful. We can aid the patient in success by encouraging them, being positive, and not ever putting blame or guilt on them. Relapses are common in this population and is necessary that we are able to identify this as part of the disease process and not noncompliance or failure.

case study 4

Meet Maristela, the Brazilian mother of 5 children*

  • Busy mother of 5 children living in rural Brazil (Northeast)
  • Illiterate with minimal access to health information

o Main points of contact include children’s school, local healthcare center, local market

  • Responsible for key health-related decisions within the household
  • Recently concerned about Kalazar, a parasite disease carried by sand-flies/ intermediate vectors (e.g. domestic animals)

o Two of her children’s playmates recently died of kalazar (also know as visceral leishmaniasis)

o Diagnosis was missed on first visit to healthcare center; low recognition of key symptoms among health care providers; parents do not know enough about the disease to suggest that physicians/healthcare providers consider it as a potential diagnosis

o Second visit to healthcare center was just too late

o Closest healthcare center is several miles from Maristela’s rural village; transportation problems may delay care

  • Feeling powerless and scared for her own children; yet, most people in the village have a fatalistic attitude toward health and illness
  • Confused about how Kalazar is contracted, how to suspect it, how to recognize early symptoms, what to do if she does suspect it
  • In her village, most communication/news take place via word-of-mouth, radio, and meetings at local religious meetings, markets, etc. A few people have access to television. Schools and health centers have access to the Internet.

Note: Kalazar presents vague symptoms such as fever, weight loss, fatigue, loss of appetite, and an enlarged spleen and liver (CDC, 2006) — also known as “potbelly”. The disease is endemic in the Northeastern region of Brazil and is primarily found in rural areas. The disease has a high mortality rate among children less than five years of age. Treatment is available and effective if administered not too late after the disease’s onset.

Based on the above information and on the definition/examples provided in your book (Schiavo, R. Health Communication: From Theory to Practice. Second Edition. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, an imprint of Wiley, 2013) 1) Develop the following elements of a potential health communication program intended to engage Maristela and her peers (Brazilian parents of young children who live in rural areas):

  • Overall program goal
  • One behavioral objective in support of the overall program’s goal
  • Two communication objectives in support of the behavioral objective
  • One communication strategy that you think would help achieve your behavioral and communication objectives
  • Two core messages for Maristela and her peers (please make sure your messages address the most prominent issues that emerged from the above profile and execute your communication objectives and strategies)
  • Key progress and outcome indicators (at least one progress and one outcome indicator) to take into account as part of your evaluation plan

Your paper should be 1- 2 pages, double-spaced, and follow APA 7th edition formatting. You will include the primary NCHEC Area of Responsibility and Competencies you are addressing in this assignment as a separate paragraph. Discuss the areas you are practicing for this assignment and the specific competency(ies) you are utilizing. Discuss the importance of these competencies as it relates to the profession of public health. Make sure all program elements are connected (and supportive of each other) and take into account the information (situation- and audience-specific facts) shared in this handout 2) Use one or two sentences to describe how you will make sure that your messages and activities (a) are culturally competent and (b) adequately address the needs of low health literacy groups such as Maristela and her peers (indicate specific activities or methods). What kind of media channels will you consider to reach Maristela and her peers?

NUR601- CASE STUDY 7

CASE STUDY

K.Y. is an employee-health nurse practitioner for a large corporation. Her role is to advocate for her clients by helping them improve their quality of life, both for the present and the future, through the identification of risk factors, health promotion, and other nursing interventions. The majority of the employees She sees are middle-age adults.

Her clients come to see her for a variety of reasons, including stress, mental illness, and on-the-job injuries. K.Y. assists her clients by providing education about healthy lifestyle choices, referrals to community resources, and counseling.

QUESTION FOR THE CASE  Make a summary of the typical biological changes in the middle-age adult.

Then, continue to discuss the 3 topics listed below for your case:

  1. Discuss how you would advise young adults in selecting contraceptive methods. Do you have any personal, religious reservations, or discomforts that would interfere with your ability to advise clients and ask them how they would address these personal conflicts?
  2. Have students develop a smoking cessation plan for a client.
  3. Evaluate the impact of poverty on older adults. Make sure to include the impact on their physical and mental health and health promotion recommendations.

American Nurses Association (ANA) Competencies and Standards in Practice

To Prepare

Part 1: ANA Competencies and Standards Identification

  • Review the American Nurses Association competencies found in the Nursing Informatics: Scope and Standards of Practice and reflect on the ANA functional areas detailed to determine which interests you the most.
  • Review the TIGER competencies and reflect on which of these you could develop based on how they relate to the ANA functional areas.
  • Review the QSEN competencies and reflect on which of these you could develop based on how they relate to the ANA functional areas.

Part 2: ANA Competencies and Standards in Practice

  • Identify a nurse informaticist to interview. You may interview the same nurse informaticist you interviewed in Module 2.
  • Set up an interview date and time. Consult the Module 4 Interview Guidelines handout for guidance. In the Module 4 Interview Guidelines handout, you will find a form for the interview subject to sign as proof for the interview occurring.
  • Develop interview questions that address all of the following:
    • An explanation of the interview subject’s current role.
    • A description of the challenges the interview subject has overcome, currently encounters, and foresees.
    • A description of how the ANA functional areas, TIGER competencies, and QSEN competencies relate to the interview subject’s role.
  • Evaluate your responses in Part 1 and compare your responses with the responses from your interview subject.

The Assignment

Part 1: ANA Competencies and Standards Identification

Submit a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Identify the ANA functional areas you are interested in and explain why.
  • Identify the TIGER competencies you might develop based on how they relate to the ANA functional areas you identified and explain why.
  • Identify the QSEN competencies you might develop based on how they relate to the ANA functional areas you identified and explain why.

Part 2: ANA Competencies and Standards in Nursing Practice

Create a 6- to 8-slide PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following:

  • Explain how your vision of your future as a nurse informaticist compares with the interview subject’s current role. To support your explanation, identify at least one area that has prompted you to change your vision of the future and explain how or why. Then, identify at least one area that aligns with your vision of the future and explain how or why.
  • Compare the challenges you foresee in the nurse informaticist role with the challenges your interview subject regularly encounters. To support your comparison, identify at least one challenge that has prompted you to change your interpretation of typical challenges and explain how or why. Then, identify at least one area that aligns with your interpretation of typical challenges and explain how or why.
  • Determine how the ANA functional areas, TIGER competencies, and QSEN competencies you identified relate to your interview subject’s current role. Are these functional areas and competencies still relevant or aligned to your future role as a nurse informaticist? Why or why not?
  • Based on your responses in Part 1, evaluate whether your assessment of your own knowledge, skills, and attitudes about the functional areas, standards, or competencies has changed, broadened, or strengthened your alignment based on your interview. Be sure to refer to your Part 1 responses and explain the change (or lack of change).
  • Provide references in APA style at the end of your presentation—the reference slide or slides do not count toward your Assignment total.
  • Submit the completed parts of the Module 4 Interview Guidelines handout.

Summary and Descriptive Statistics

There is often the requirement to evaluate descriptive statistics for data within the organization or for health care information. Every year the National Cancer Institute collects and publishes data based on patient demographics. Understanding differences between the groups based upon the collected data often informs health care professionals towards research, treatment options, or patient education.

Using the data on the “National Cancer Institute Data” Excel spreadsheet, calculate the descriptive statistics indicated below for each of the Race/Ethnicity groups. Refer to your textbook and the Topic Materials, as needed, for assistance in with creating Excel formulas.

Provide the following descriptive statistics:

  1. Measures of Central Tendency: Mean, Median, and Mode
  2. Measures of Variation: Variance, Standard Deviation, and Range (a formula is not needed for Range).
  3. Once the data is calculated, provide a 150-250 word analysis of the descriptive statistics on the spreadsheet. This should include differences and health outcomes between groups.

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
