Assessment of Community-Level Barriers
For the second written assignment of the course, you will continue in the design of your proposed model program by demonstrating your understanding of your selected population’s challenges, which negatively impact this group’s health and well-being. Based on this week’s research, conduct an assessment of the barriers, limitations, and other distinguishing features, as they exist within your community.
- Prepare a recap of the model program for your community that you originally shared in the week 2 written assignment. As stated in the Week Two directions, changes to the potential program can be made as you research and develop the focus of the program.
- Analyze and discuss at least three critical barriers that impact the health and well-being of your chosen group; one must be a micro-level (individual) barrier that is financial, one must be a macro-level (community/state) barrier that relates to access and funding for care, and the third barrier may be one of your choosing.
- Discuss at least one proposed solution for each barrier. Your solution for the micro barrier must include an analysis of various potential funding options (both independent and integrated). Your solution for the macro barrier must include an analysis of financing resources for health care.
- Research and analyze the regulatory, legal, ethical, and accreditation requirements and issues for the service(s) offered in your proposed program. Discuss how each will impact the management of the program.
Your assignment should be a minimum of three pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and should include a minimum of three scholarly sources cited according to APA guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Please note: All assignments in this course are progressive; therefore you should use the same population selected in your Week Two assignment. The Week Two assignment’s contents do not need to be re-submitted with this assignment.
Discussion 2: The Role of the RN/APRN in Policy-Making, NURS 6050 Policy and Advocacy for Improving Population Health
Word cloud generators have become popular tools for meetings and team-building events. Groups or teams are asked to use these applications to input words they feel best describe their team or their role. A “word cloud” is generated by the application that makes prominent the most-used terms, offering an image of the common thinking among participants of that role.
What types of words would you use to build a nursing word cloud? Empathetic, organized, hard-working, or advocate would all certainly apply. Would you add policy-maker to your list? Do you think it would be a very prominent component of the word cloud?
Nursing has become one of the largest professions in the world, and as such, nurses have the potential to influence policy and politics on a global scale. When nurses influence the politics that improve the delivery of healthcare, they are ultimately advocating for their patients. Hence, policy-making has become an increasingly popular term among nurses as they recognize a moral and professional obligation to be engaged in healthcare legislation.
To Prepare:
- Revisit the Congress.gov website provided in the Resources and consider the role of RNs and APRNs in policy-making.
- Reflect on potential opportunities that may exist for RNs and APRNs to participate in the policy-making process.
By Day 3 of Week 8
Post an explanation of at least two opportunities that exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy-making. Explain some of the challenges that these opportunities may present and describe how you might overcome these challenges. Finally, recommend two strategies you might make to better advocate for or communicate the existence of these opportunities to participate in policy-making. Be specific and provide examples.
By Day 6 of Week 8
Respond to at least two of your colleagues’* posts by suggesting additional opportunities or recommendations for overcoming the challenges described by your colleagues.
Benchmark – Human Experience Across the Health-Illness Continuum
Research the health-illness continuum and its relevance to patient care. In a 750-1,000 word paper, discuss the relevance of the continuum to patient care and present a perspective of your current state of health in relation to the wellness spectrum. Include the following:
Examine the health-illness continuum and discuss why this perspective is important to consider in relation to health and the human experience when caring for patients.
Explain how understanding the health-illness continuum enables you, as a health care provider, to better promote the value and dignity of individuals or groups and to serve others in ways that promote human flourishing.
Reflect on your overall state of health. Discuss what behaviors support or detract from your health and well-being. Explain where you currently fall on the health-illness continuum.
Discuss the options and resources available to you to help you move toward wellness on the health-illness spectrum. Describe how these would assist in moving you toward wellness (managing a chronic disease, recovering from an illness, self-actualization, etc.).
windshield survey
Prepare a 15- slide presentation. Make sure your presentation includes audio and either speaker notes, a video capture of yourself delivering the presentation, or full video (see example listed below). The presentation should be between 8 to 10 minutes long.

6614: Gap in Practice: Assessment 2
As a leader in practice, you will use your gap analysis to provide a 12–15 slide recorded PowerPoint presentation on the critical importance of interprofessional collaboration for the provision of safe, high-quality coordinated care.
To gain help and support for your implementation of your project, it is important to guide the stakeholders through all the steps in the process. Providing the team with a detailed cohesive presentation will enhance their understanding and give a voice to any divergent opinions about the proposed changes. This type of engagement creates a platform of transparency about the coming changes needed for the improvement project. Fostering positive interprofessional communications with project stakeholders builds trust and understanding, which in turn leads to better health outcomes.

PRACTICE PATTERNS
Why do you think many healthcare practitioners are often unwilling to change practice patterns, based on research findings? Some practitioners criticize evidence-based practice as “cookbook care.” Considering these perceptions, how would you utilize your education and experiences in planning the implementation of a major change? Personhood
The concept of personhood, as defined by Schoenhofer, is a central concept of the theory of Nursing as Caring Theory. Nursing as Caring Theory is grand nursing theory developed by Theorists Boykin and Schoenhofer that evolved from theories of Paterson and Zderad (Duffy, Donnell, & Snowden, 2014). The ideologies of these theorists are cultivated around a care model that evaluates and defines nursing as a discipline and a profession as it relates to the patient and the nurse.
The field of nursing has progressed from a bedside profession to an advance art of discipline. The evolution of nursing from a profession to an advance discipline was made possible due to advancement, analysis, and applications of principles of medicine and philosophy. Philosophically personhood is defined as the status of being a person. Nursing embodies this concept and adapts it to each individual meaningfully and appropriately. Theorists Boykin and Schoenhofer developed the grand nursing theory of Nursing as Caring around the central ideas of “the between”, “the call for nursing”, ”the nursing response”, and “personhood” (Duffy, Donnell, & Snowden, 2014). These four central ideas are interconnected and offer a conceptual framework in caring for patients and enhance and afford the ability for all those involved in the nursing process the ability to be “a person”; an integral role for the nurse and patient because without this authenticity the nursing process will not be able to reach its fullest potential (Schoenherr, 2002).
The call of nursing is the initial step in the methodology of the Nursing is Caring Theory. It is during this stage the nurse accepts the ‘call’ to nurture. The call of the nurse is then proceeded by the ‘nurse’s response’. This nurse response is a testament to all her knowledge and experiences and the ability to translate and relate to the task at hand. Once the nurse’s knowledge and experiences are uniquely appropriated for the environment, trust is gained from the patient and the acknowledge they are seen as a person and able to exhibit their personhood to the nurse. Nurses must do this on a daily basis and multiple times within in the day due to the various dynamics they are faced with, different patient demographics, their caregivers, and other staff members. When a nurse enters the environment of the patient it is where they are most vulnerable and allowed to exihibit personhood and adapt their abilities and develop their abilities to care for the patient. It is in this raw instance of vulnerability and personhood that a nurse is able to be receptive and learn the needs of the patient and afford them the best care.
The most impactful and meaningful takeaway from Nursing as Caring Theory is that, above all else, nurses instinctively and inertly will act upon the intent to help, heal, and nurture. Due to the ubiquitous nature of the discipline and profession of nursing, a nurse can easily adapt their nursing response to be suitable for the environment and call of nursing and appropriate to be purposeful for each individual. This flexibility and adaptability of a nurse is a skillset that facilitates the holistic art of nursing that is conducive to learning, teaching, healing, and promoting wellness in individuals.

RE: Discussion – Week 6-one page three references
The peer review article I chose, was about using acetaminophen for pain management post op laparoscopic surgery ( Annals of Medicine and Surgery, 2017). I decided to use this topic, because I have been working in the ortho floor lately, and noticed a lot of physicians prescribing Tylenol to patients post op, around the clock. I kept asking the charge nurse and other nurses why, and nobody seemed to have a definite answer, as to why. Doctors would explain to me, that it was way to prevent prescribing hard core pain medications, instead. Due to the fact, that when the patients are discharged, they will not be able to get that IV Dilaudid, at home.
I searched for my article using the Walden University. I found the search for this article on the website, to be easy and user-friendly. On top of the search, the library gave me additional topics related to my search. Similar to Youtube, you can continue clicking on interesting things, and the next thing you know, two hours have passed, and you are reading on why cats have 9 lives! In other words, I found the Walden University library to be very useful for me and my colleagues. I would so recommend it to not just my colleagues, but to the whole Walden University campus, and future colleagues to com
