Statistical application and the interpretation of data is important in health care. Review the statistical concepts covered in this topic. In a 750-1,000 word paper, discuss the significance of statistical application in health care. Include the following:

1. Describe the application of statistics in health care. Specifically discuss its significance to quality, safety, health promotion, and leadership.
2. Consider your organization or specialty area and how you utilize statistical knowledge. Discuss how you obtain statistical data, how statistical knowledge is used in day-to-day operations and how you apply it or use it in decision making.

Select two clients you observed or counseled this week during a group therapy session. Note: The two clients you select must have attended the same group session.

Then, in your Practicum Journal, address the following:

• Using the Group Therapy Progress Note in this week’s Learning Resources, document the group session.
• Describe each client (without violating HIPAA regulations), and identify any pertinent history or medical information, including prescribed medications.
• Using the DSM-5, explain and justify your diagnosis for each client.
• Explain whether cognitive behavioral therapy would be effective with this group. Include expected outcomes based on this therapeutic approach.

The purpose of this assignment is to go beyond the usual social network(s) and realm of understanding in order to build a bridge of understanding about another person from his/her perception about his/her own life experiences in the workplace and or helping professions.

Interview two adults: one adult of a different ethnicity/race than yourself and one adult who is at least 10 years older and/or younger than you. You must choose one person from each category, not the same person. Ask him/her the following questions and document the answers for each interview.

1. Document if the person you interviewed is male or female.
2. What is your ethnicity/race or age? (Make sure the person is ok with sharing his/her age.)
3. What is your level of education?
4. What is your occupation?
5. Have you ever experienced discrimination in the workplace? How did you feel? How did you react? Please explain what happened.
6. During your lifetime, what significant current event have you experienced? (e.g., 911)
7. How has this significant event shaped your experiences with others?

After you have the aforementioned interview questions answered, please provide the following regarding your findings:

• Compare and/or contrast the experiences of the person you interviewed to your own. Provide one example. Write an explanation at least two paragraphs in length for each interview. Be sure to address the following questions, along with any additional information your wish to include and/or share:
• What conclusions can you draw from the commonalities?
• How could some of these situations be mediated or resolved (e.g., by the person experiencing the discrimination, by institutions employing those who are discriminating others or dealing with clients/customers who are discriminating against employees).

Chapter I Review of the Literature
Introduction: This is your first subheading. Introduce the topic overall in your first paragraph; then, follow with a “roadmap” paragraph which starts off with one sentence about the purpose of your particular study and then tells the reader what will be presented in the review of the literature.
This entire section should be no more than 2-3 paragraphs

Subheadings Particular to your Topic Area; HEART OF LITERATURE REVIEW; remember, as you review the literature, you start out broad and then narrow your topics to be closer to the specific area related to your study. THINK OF A FUNNEL! References must be presented to support the information you are citing throughout this section of the paper. This section should be about 8 -20 pages, depending upon the availability of research in the topic area you are investigating. AND THERE SHOULD BE SEVERAL SUBHEADINGS RELATED TO THE AREAS YOU ARE DISCUSSING.

Summary and Rationale: This needs to be a SUMMARY of the literature you have presented in the body of paper (literature review). Needs to be in YOUR OWN WORDS, NO CITING OF REFERENCES. NO NEW INFORMATION SHOULD BE INTRODUCED IN THIS SECTION. At this point, you are building a case for conducting your proposed study. This is a SUMMARY of the important points you have discussed in your literature review. Then you use the summary to provide a clear rationale or reason for why you are conducting your particular study.
This section should be no more than 2-3 pages.

Plan of Study and Experimental Questions/Hypotheses: This is the conclusion of your literature review (Chapter I). You present a paragraph briefly describing your particular study followed by the specific and definitive experimental questions or hypotheses you are going to answer with your 
study.
No longer than a half-page to a page.

Chapter II Proposed Method
Participants: clear description of participants, how selected, all criteria Pre-experimental testing: description of any tests or testing you are conducting to select participants

General Information: where participants were recruited from, where they will be tested, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval information of the study, length of protocol or Testing (your study), how many sessions or time you will need to complete study for each participant.

Experimental Testing: presentation of the exact materials, procedures, equipment (if appropriate) for your study. HERE YOU ARE ONLY DISCUSSING THE MATERIALS AND PROCEDURES FOR THE ACTUAL STUDY; do NOT include description of PRE- EXPERIMENTAL TESTS OR PROCEDURES.

Materials: the actual stimuli of your study…can be toys, pictures, tests, new protocols, etc. if it is a test or materials already published, you need to include the appropriate citation.

Procedures: exactly how the study will be carried out for each participant. THE EXPERIMENTAL STUDY. Be very specific.

Equipment: Description of any equipment used and how used in study as appropriate; include citation as appropriate. You may not have any equipment. Entire Chapter should be about 2-5 pages depending upon complexity of your study.

Chapter III Design and Analysis of Study
Reliability: depending on study and use of operational definitions as needed, you may need to report reliability information…here report HOW it will be conducted (discussed in class)

Design: Describe the design of the study (e.g., randomized; single subject, two group; etc).; tell how many variables, both between and within subject variables, and how many levels within each variable.

Analysis: WHAT IS GOING TO BE SPECIFICALLY ANALYZED? (what are you Measuring: that is, the DEPENDENT VARIABLE(S)); how is the data to be analyzed (e.g., parametric, nonparametric, effect size (if needed); which specific statistic; post hoc test, if appropriate). Should follow along with your experimental questions. Remember you will probably have more than one analysis, statistical test, because you will have more than one experimental question.
This Chapter should be no more than 2 pages.

Situation: Patient “CP” is an 18-year-old male who was admitted at 1900 today. His mother visited him at his college dormitory and was very concerned with his health; he seemed weak and had lost weight since she last saw him. She took him to see his primary care provider, and the provider admitted him and has ordered a tube feeding. I placed an 8-Fr, 42-inch feeding tube in his right nares about an hour ago, and x-ray just called and confirmed placement in the stomach. The pump is in his room. He is up to the bathroom prn; otherwise bed rest.

Background: CP was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a child and has had frequent hospitalizations previously. He reports fatigue and has recently lost 6 kg (13.2 lb) after he registered at the local college and moved to live in a dormitory. CP’s mom was here earlier, but she is a single parent and has two younger boys, so she had to go home.

Assessment: CP is awake and alert. His heart rate and rhythm are regular at 80–85/min. Breath sounds are fine with a respiratory rate at 18/min. His color is a bit pale. Blood pressure is 118/78 mm Hg. He reports no pain and states he’s not had much appetite the past few weeks. His belly is flat and nontender. Bowel sounds are normoactive.

Recommendation: CP is due for vital signs and assessment. The tube feeding just arrived, and you will need to start it on the pump. He needs 720 kilocalories over 8 hours overnight. His regular diet is high calorie, high fat, but he wasn’t too hungry this evening; just had a bit of his chocolate shake. You will need to give his pancreatic enzymes orally before you start the tube feeding. You should also assess his diet and reinforce patient education on nutrition.

REQUIREMENTS

NECK/ THOAT: mild edema with inflammation located on forearms, upper arms, and chest wall, thighs and knees; primary lesions are a macular papular rash with secondary linear excoriations on forearms and legs

As a practice scholar, you are searching for evidence to translate into practice. In your review of evidence, you locate a quantitative descriptive research study as possible evidence to support a practice change. You notice the sample of this study includes 200 participants and is not normally distributed. Reflect upon this scenario to address the following.

• What statistical procedure is needed to determine an effective sample size to make a reasonable conclusion? Explain your rationale.
• Reading through the study, you observe that the researcher used a chi-square analysis to analyze nominal and ordinal data. Is this the appropriate level of statistical analysis to answer the research question? Explain your rationale.
• Reading further, the researcher reports that the p-level led her to conclude that the null hypothesis was rejected. In your critique of the study, you determine that the null hypothesis is true. Do these findings impact your decision about whether to use this evidence to inform practice change? Why or why not?
