Chronic Stable Angina

E.H. is a 45-year-old African American man who recently moved to the community from another state. He requests renewal of a prescription for a calcium channel blocker, prescribed by a physician in the former state. He is unemployed and lives with a woman, their son, and the woman’s 2 children. His past medical history is remarkable for asthma and six “heart attacks” that he claims occurred because of a 25-year history of drug use (primarily cocaine). He states that he used drugs as recently as 2 weeks ago. He does not have any prior medical records with him. He claims that he has been having occasional periods of chest pain. He is unable to report the duration or pattern of the pain. Before proceeding, explore the following questions: What further information would you need to diagnose angina (substantiate your answer)? What is the connection between cocaine use and angina? Identify at least three tests that you would order to diagnose angina.

Diagnosis: Angina

1. List specific goals of treatment for E.H.

2. What dietary and lifestyle changes should be recommended for this patient?

3. What drug therapy would you prescribe for E.H. and why?

4. How would you monitor for success in E.H.?

5. Describe one or two drug–drug or drug–food interactions for the selected agent.

6. List one or two adverse reactions for the selected agent that would cause you to change therapy.

7. What would be the choice for the second-line therapy?

8. Discuss specific patient education based on the prescribed first-line therapy.

9. What over-the-counter and/or alternative medications would be appropriate for E.H.?

Literature Search, Rapid Critical Appraisal, and Summary

For this assignment, you will locate two research studies related to the topic and PICOT questions that you developed in Week 2. The articles must be current (within the last five years), and one article must be quantitative, and one article must be qualitative.

Article choice is very important, therefore:

  • Articles used for this assignment cannot be used for the other assignments. The selected articles should be original research studies. Review articles, concept analysis, meta-analysis, meta-synthesis, integrative review, and systemic review articles should not be used.
  • Mixed-methods studies should not be used.

There are two parts to this assignment.

Part 1: Complete a Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklist

  • Select one each: qualitative and quantitative research articles.
  • Create a Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklist for the two research articles (one column per article).
  • Complete with brief, concise, summarized information.

Part II: Write a summary (one- to two- pages)

  • Identify differences between quantitative and qualitative designs and research methods.
  • Use current APA Style for your summary paper and to cite your sources.
  • Submit the checklist and summary.

Medical Assignment

Please provide proper APA citation of your references. DO NOT COPY WORD FOR WORD (this includes both text book and all other forms of media- paraphrase and cite your reference). Remember to include a reference sheet with you references list IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER.

1. In your own words explain the purpose for using theory to develop community based health interventions. (This is not a one or two sentence answer. I am looking for a solid explanation, utilizing references, of why we use theory).

2. In your own words, describe the relationship between theoretical constructs and intervention activities. (This is not a one or two sentence answer. I am looking for a complete discussion of the interactions of theoretical constructs and intervention activities).

3. In your own words discuss the difference between primary and secondary data. (This is not a one or two sentence answer. Your response should demonstrate a complete understanding of the terms and must include examples… DO NOT USE EXAMPLES FROM THE TEXT BOOK!!!).

4. State and describe a specific priority population for whom an internet-based survey would be appropriate (notice I said describe not simply list). Why do you think it would work with this group (be complete in your response)? What research and/or statistics support your claim (this can be addressed with a simple web search. Do not forget to reference)? I am looking for a logical response to this question. Do not simply put something down without having firm evidence to support.

Each answer must contain 150 word answer minimum.

Capstone Project Topic Selection and Approval

In collaboration with the approved course preceptor, students will identify a specific evidence-based topic for the capstone project change proposal. Students should consider the clinical environment in which they are currently employed or have recently worked. N492 Discussion Mod 3:

Overview

Disasters occur every day. The community health nurse has a significant role in preparedness, response and recovery when disaster strikes locally. Effective response to disaster demands the community health nurse to develop specific competencies. These include understanding the role, recognition of disaster-related health conditions, infection control post disaster, disease reporting, public education and stress management in the affected community.

Discussion Question:

Identify your own level of preparedness should disaster strike in your area. Visit the Red Cross site: http://www.redcross.org/get-help/prepare-for-emergencies/be-red-cross-ready to review details on disaster preparedness kit, plan and information. Discuss your response to this information. Were you surprised at your level of readiness? What steps will you take to prepare yourself and your family for the possibility of disaster? How can you share this information with your community?

Your initial posting should be at least 400 words in length and utilize at least one scholarly source other than the textbook.

Literature Review (CAPSTONE TOPIC: Fall prevention strategies in hospitals.)

PICOT Question

Among patients admitted in the hospital (P), how effective is providing a safe hospital environment (I) as compared to conducting standardized assessments (C) in preventing falls (O) within the period of stay in the hospital (T)?

Literature Review

While the implementation plan prepares students to apply their research to the problem or issue they have identified for their capstone project change proposal, the literature review enables students to map out and move into the active planning and development stages of the project.

A literature review analyzes how current research supports the PICOT, as well as identifies what is known and what is not known in the evidence. Students will use the information from the earlier PICOT Question Paper and Literature Evaluation Table assignments to develop a 750-1,000 word review that includes the following sections:

  1. Title page
  2. Introduction section
  3. A comparison of research questions
  4. A comparison of sample populations
  5. A comparison of the limitations of the study
  6. A conclusion section, incorporating recommendations for further research
