Managerial Challenge

US Airways (American Airlines) owns a piece of land near the Pittsburgh International Airport. The land originally cost US Airways $375,000. The airline is considering building a new training center on this land. US Airways determined that the proposal to build the new training center is acceptable if the original cost of the land is used in the analysis, but the proposal does not meet the airline’s project acceptance criteria if the land cost is above $850,000. Assume the labor and raw materials total $1,720,000. A developer recently offered US Airways $2.5 million for the land. What is the economic profit, opportunity cost, and should US Airways (American Airlines) build the training center at this location? (Chapter 8 Economic Cost)

  • Residency Poster PresentationPrepare a PowerPoint presentation of your preliminary idea for your research project. The PowerPoint presentation must include the following:
    • Background on the problem (1-2 slides)
    • Explanation of the problem to be studied (1-2 slides). Include evidence that the problem is current and significant
    • The overarching research question(s) (1 slide)
    • Identify at least three scholarly sources that directly inform the project. The sources should be relevant and recent.
  • AssignmentResidency Annotated Bibliography (September 26th 1:00 pm EST)  [5 references which includes the references delivered in poster presentation and cover the below requirements for the topic and for which we will be doinfg for final upcoming research paper] Begin organizing the research and topics for your project using an annotated bibliography. The format of the annotated bibliography is a referene to the article, formatted per APA 7th edition, and an annotation or summary of the article. The summary should include important topics and how the topic relates to your research. Your annotations should cover three areas (typically formatted in three paragraphs):
    • Summary: What did the author do? Why? What did he/she find?
    • Analysis: Was the author’s method sound? What information was missing? Is this a scholarly source?
    • Application: Does this article fill a gap in the literature? How would you be able to apply this method/study to yoru study? Is the article universal?
    • Writing annotated bibliographies will help you develop the skills to critically read and identify key points within an article. This will help you determine the validity and usefulness of the articles in relation to your research topic.
  • AssignmentResidency Literature Review (september 26th 6 pm est)You will submit a draft of the literature review portion of your research paper. The literature review will form the main body of your final research paper. This will be where you provide a synthesis of the articles you have found related to your topic. When writing a literature review, you should include or consider the following:
    • An introduction and a conclusion
    • Avoid direct quotes.
    • Organize by topic or theme rather than by author
    • Use headings
    • Show relationships and consider the flow of ideas
  • AssignmentResidency Research Paper (October 1st 7:00 pm est)Submit your professional research paper (15 pages) on a current topic in cloud computing. Amend your paper based on feedback you received during the residency weekend. The paper includes your final literature review and your completed analysis of your chosen research topic. The paper must adhere to APA format and style (APA 7th edition).

Data Analysis and Data Mining

As more and more people are becoming connected over the internet and are also becoming more and more dependent to technology, the level of data that happens to be developed over time has been on a gradual rise since the internet and tech boom in 2002*. This sudden increase in data has resulted in various forms of data being developed. One of these forms is known as data analysis where as the other happens to be data mining. These two concepts can closely be assumed to relate, however, this is never the case since these two concepts happen to be rather different in a large number of ways.

For instance, data analysis happens to deal with the extraction, cleaning, transformation, remodeling, visual representation and grouping of data into information that can be consumed and used in making decision or coming up with a particular conclusion. Thus, this does point out that data analysis is mainly used for the main purpose of making sense of complex data that is yet to be processed into understandable information (Zaki & Meira, 2014). Data analysis also happens to be used in testing hypothesis, this results in placing data analysis in being used in statistics, mathematics as well as computer science based structures as a means of deriving a set of findings or conclusions from collected data.

On the other hand, data mining does happen to follows some principles of data analysis and can be grouped under data mining, however, data mining happens to be the extensive exploration and evaluation of large amounts of data with the purpose of retrieving or identifying a hidden pattern in a large data set. Data mining is also used in developing machine learning and AI system models that happen to be used in conducting effective data analysis. data mining is also known as information discovery since it ends up looking at various sets of data and attaining a fixed finding from the data set presented (Zaki & Meira, 2014). Data mining is also used in a large structure of data that contains immense complexities since it does not require visualization as a result of its initial purpose of making data usable, that is, turning raw data into valuable information.

Discussion (Course — Digital Forensic Evidence)

 Mrs. Mary Winkler Murder Case.

Preamble

The modern approach of forensic of investigation is a combination of what we inherited, learned, documented from the past leading to rewarding and challenging life-time investment. Forensic investigation involves searching, penetrating, and analyzing items from several different fields of life, demands well-synthesized record-keeping and hard to accomplish. It is imperative for forensic investigator to understand the basic techniques of collection and preservation of evidence and cannot be completed with comprehensive and fundamental understanding of forensic science.

Pre-Assessment:         Mrs. Mary Winkler Murder Case.

In March 2006, Mrs. Mary C. Winkler, the wife of a Pastor in Tennessee town, shot and killed her husband, Rev. Matthew Winkler, in the back with a 12-guage shotgun while he slept. Throughout the ensuing trial, the suspect Mrs. Winkler, along with family and friends, claimed that her husband had mistreated her, and mistreatment had inspired the shooting. After the shooting, Mrs. Winkler was arrested in Orange Beach, Alabama, where she had fled with her three young daughters, and extradited to Tennessee. On April 20, 2007, Mrs. Winkler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and a grand jury indicted her on charges of first-degree murder.

When Mrs. Winkler took the stand in her own defense two days before her conviction, she told the grand jury of her alleged abuse at the hands of her late husband, with whom she had frequent arguments. She asserted that the shooting was an accident and that she had actually been trying to reconcile with her husband at the time of the murder and further claimed that although the gun had discharged, she could not remember having pulled the trigger.

She alleged that her flight to Alabama affirmed her determined attempts to get away from her angry husband. Winkler was ultimately convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced on June 8, 2007, to 210 days in prison, 5 months of which she had already served. She spent some time in a Tennessee mental health facility and then served the remainder of her sentence on probation. Eventually, she was awarded custody of her children.  At times, law recognizes, under circumstances most individual can be justification for the taking of human life (Montaldo, 2017).
