Paper Section 1: Reflection and Literature Review

Using Microsoft Word and Professional APA format, prepare a professional written paper supported with three sources of research that details what you have learned from chapters 7, 8, 9, and 10.  This section of the paper should be a minimum of two pages. 

Paper Section 2:  Applied Learning Exercises

In this section of the professional paper, apply what you have learned from chapters 7, 8, 9, and 10 to descriptively address and answer the problems below.  Important Note:  Dot not type the actual written problems within the paper itself.

1. Survey and compare and possibly test some text mining tools and vendors. Start with clearforest.com and megaputer.com. Also consult with dmreview.com to further identify some text mining products to explore and even test?
2. Survey and compare and possibly test some Web mining tools and vendors. Identify some Web mining products and service providers that could potentially be useful in a work environment you may want to be part of.
3. Investigate via a Web search how models and their solutions are used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the “war against terrorism.” Also investigate how other governments or government agencies are using models in their missions.
4. Search online to find vendors of genetic algorithms and investigate the business applications of their products and even possibly test them where applicable. What kinds of applications are most prevalent and why?
5. Important Note:  With limited time for a college class, perfection is not expected but effort to be exposed to various tools with attempts to learn about them is critical when considering a career in information technology associated disciplines.

Important Note:  There is no specific page requirement for this section of the paper but make sure any content provided fully addresses each problem.

Paper Section 3:  Conclusions

After addressing the problems, conclude your paper with details on how you will use this knowledge and skills to support your professional and or academic goals. This section of the paper should be around one page including a custom and original process flow or flow diagram to visually represent how you will apply this knowledge going forward.  This customized and original flow process flow or flow diagram can be created using the “Smart Art” tools in Microsoft Word.

Paper Section 4:  APA Reference Page

The three or more sources of research used to support this overall paper should be included in proper APA format in the final section of the paper.

The recent advances in information and communication technology (ICT) has promoted the evolution of conventional computer-aided manufacturing industry to smart data-driven manufacturing. Data analytics in massive manufacturing data can extract huge business values while it can also result in research challenges due to the heterogeneous data types, enormous volume and real-time velocity of manufacturing data.

For this assignment, you are required to research the benefits as well as the challenges associated with Big Data Analytics for Manufacturing Internet of Things.

• Be approximately four to six pages in length, not including the required cover page and reference page.
• Follow APA 7 guidelines. Your paper should include an introduction, a body with fully developed content, and a conclusion.

Assignment 1 (20 points)

CONTEXTUAL THINKING ABOUT DIFFERENT SCENARIOS

This exercise involves you using imagination and logical reasoning to occupy the mindset of a visualiser facing the task of formulating a brief for different scenarios. Imagine you are given the challenge of creating a visualisation/infographic in each of the following made-up scenarios relating to the subject of Oil Spills. 

Scenario A: A broadsheet newspaper reporting on the regions and communities affected by oil spills

Scenario B: Analysts at the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation (ITOPF) providing business intelligence reporting to support operational colleagues

Scenario C: Presentation to shareholders of BP (British Petroleum) demonstrating the reduction in spill-related losses

Compile a document outlining your assumptions, definitions and ideas about the context and vision for each of the scenarios presented above. Get into the mindset of the potential creators and audiences. If you were them what do you think you might be faced with in terms of requirements, constraints, needs and possibilities? 

(Context) CURIOSITY: Outline what you think might be the essence of the trigger curiosity behind each scenario?

(Context) CIRCUMSTANCES: Work through the list shared in the book of the main circumstantial headings and list or describe your creative and critical judgment about the inevitable, assumed, or self-defined factors you think might be relevant or existent in each scenario. Consider the reasons behind your judgments

(Context) PURPOSE: How might you describe or articulate what you imagine the purpose of the work associated with each scenario would be: how might success, impact or effectiveness be expressed and measured? What is the right kind of experience and tone of voice that would reflect the best fit creative direction (could be a singular location or a journey across the dimensions of the map).

(Vision) IDEAS: Sketch out your instinctive ideas about what you think the visual work for each scenario look’s like in your mind’s eye: what colours, forms, keywords, layouts, thoughts come to mind when you think about the subject at hand? What other work can you find through research or past experience that may offer inspiration, influence or reference for your thinking?

There is no need to do any data extraction or analysis, just use your imagination for what data could exist and could be available. There is no perfect answer, no right and no wrong: it is about using a degree of practical imagination and empathy (your ability to occupy the mindset of others). You will need to make many assumptions and take the initiative to define things yourself.

Digital evidence is generally a suggestive of human activities; for example, the system clock on a computer can be incorrect, and date-time stamps can be misinterpreted. Furthermore, the source internet protocol (IP) address on network traffic may be assigned to a proxy device rather than the actual originating computer.

Scenario:   A genuine question on the authenticity of the original and accuracy of the photocopy of an evidence could be unfair to admit in place of the original copy.  Furthermore, presenting a photocopy of digital evidence is usually more desirable because it eliminates the risk of original being unintentionally altered. As an organization lead forensic investigator, which of this conclusive evidence will you present in court:

1. Provide a comprehensive narrative on the importance of the original copy of the evidence in court?

Annotated Bibliography

In order to complete this program, you will need to do research. One of the more useful tools in conducting research is the annotated bibliography.  An annotated bibliography combines the citations found in the References list at the end of documents in APA format with annotations about each of the sources.  For this final assignment, you will construct an annotated bibliography to help build your personal citation “database” to use as your move forward and (hopefully) for your dissertation.  Take this time to start on the right foot and be prepared when the time comes.  You should have a general ideal of your research topic, if not, take this time to think about what area you want to do research and find article to help shape that path.  

Audience: This assignment should be directed at your scholarly peers, and you may assume that they have only a casual familiarity with your topic or issue.

Constraints:  The annotated bibliography is a fairly rigid genre.  Your citations must adhere to APA format.  This will be one of the central components of the grade for this assignment.  Failure to follow APA format exactly will harm your grade.  The annotations for each source should follow an academic style.  This means that you must construct, with elevated and sophisticated language, correct grammatical sentences that effectively summarize what each source has to say.  Additionally, you should explain how each source is relevant to the issue that you have selected and what it adds to your knowledge about your issue.

Follow with a brief annotation that summarizes the source (approx. 100-150 words). You may NOT quote from the source; Ideally, all of the annotation should be in your own words.  In 1 or 2 sentences, explain the source’s relevance and importance to your issue.

Specific guidelines to follow when completing this assignment are:

2. No more than 3 can be website citations

3. At least 5 must be peer reviewed.

·  Adherence to APA format for all citations.

·  Sources in alphabetical order according to author.

·  Thoughtful and complete annotations of 100-150 words each. (Min 7pages).

·  Correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

·  No late assignments can be accepted due to University policy.  I will make this due towards the end of the semester, final grades are due 24 hours after the end of the semester, so I do not have a large time frame to accept late work, since I cannot grade after I have to submit your final grade to the University Registrar.  You have multiple weeks to finish, finish sooner, rather than later.
