Explain the difference between an access control list (ACL) that is used in routers to block traffic and how a firewall blocks traffic. What similarities do they share?
Physical Security and Threats
Physical controls are your first line of defense.
You work as an independent consultant within physical security, you are hired to choose a location for an IT start company that just received a multi-million dollar government contract to provide cloud services. Although the company will handle non-sensitive information you will provide consultations as the information was sensitive.
Task:
- Research a real location, a building that is for sale
- Cost of the building?
- Will you use security guards?
- What area will they monitor?
- What perimeter controls will be used
- What internal controls will be implemented
Tips:
- Google Earth to see the physical layout,
- Zillow 3D is helpful.
- FEMA Perimeter Security Design

Tableau project
The purpose of this project is to give you experience working in Tableau to build interactive dashboards. The data provided comes from LendingClub.com. Each row represents a $25 investment (called a “note”) in a loan. You have a lot of information about each note and the borrower – a majority of which you will not need. A data dictionary is provided, though it appears to not cover everything in the data. If you are unsure about something, make an assumption and proceed. You can go any way you want with this data to show anything you think is worth looking at. I encourage you to be creative. You will be graded on the overall quality of your resulting dashboard and work completed. Submissions SUBMIT A .TWBX FILE, NOT A .TWB FILE! You can do this via File – Save As – and selecting Tableau Packaged Workbook (TWBX) as the file type.

Research paper
You work for a high-tech company with approximately 390 employees. Your firm recently won a large DoD contract, which will add 30% to the revenue of your organization. It is a high-priority, high-visibility project. You will be allowed to make your own budget, project timeline, and tollgate decisions.
This course project will require you to form a team of 2 to 3 coworkers (fellow students) and develop the proper DoD security policies required to meet DoD standards for delivery of technology services to the U.S. Air Force Cyber Security Center (AFCSC), a DoD agency. To do this, you must develop DoD-approved policies and standards for your IT infrastructure (see the “Tasks” section below). The policies you create must pass DoD-based requirements. Currently, your organization does not have any DoD contracts and thus has no DoD-compliant security policies or controls in place.
