Practical Connection Assignment

Practical Connection Assignment
At UC, it is a priority that students are provided with strong educational programs and courses that allow them to be servant-leaders in their disciplines and communities, linking research with practice and knowledge with ethical decision-making. This assignment is a written assignment where you will demonstrate how this course research has connected and put into practice within your own career.

Assignment:
Provide a reflection of at least 500 words (or 2 pages double spaced) of how the knowledge, skills, or theories of this course have been applied, or could be applied, in a practical manner to your current work environment. If you are not currently working, share times when you have or could observe these theories and knowledge could be applied to an employment opportunity in your field of study.

Requirements:
Provide a 500 word (or 2 pages double spaced) minimum reflection.
Use of proper APA formatting and citations. If supporting evidence from outside resources is used those must be properly cited.
Share a personal connection that identifies specific knowledge and theories from this course.
Demonstrate a connection to your current work environment. If you are not employed, demonstrate a connection to your desired work environment.
You should NOT, provide an overview of the assignments assigned in the course. The assignment asks that you reflect how the knowledge and skills obtained through meeting course objectives were applied or could be applied in the workplace.

Essay Questions

The assignment must be a minimum of 1-full page in length with a minimum of 2 – outside sources. Please be sure to follow APA guidelines for citing and referencing sources.

Question #1

Immunomedics was alerted that there was some negative buzz about the company in a chat room. The poster used a pseudonym, and therefore the company was unable to identify the poster for lawsuit purposes. The only information the company could ascertain was the poster’s ISP. So the company decided to subpoena the ISP for identity information of the poster in order to file suit against the poster. How should the courts handle these cases, where the company’s complaints may, or may not rise to the level of an actionable legal claim?

Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Inc. v. Craigslist, 519 F.3d 666 (7th Cir. 2008).

Question #2.

Users of the popular Internet website Craigslist are able to post advertisements for housing that permit statements regarding the preference, limitation, or discrimination of others based on race, religion, sex, or family status. The Fair Housing Act (FHA), however, prohibits making, printing, or publishing a notice, statement, or advertisement for sale or rental of dwellings indicating preference, limitation, or discrimination based on protected classes. As such, the Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Inc. brought suit against Craigslist alleging a violation of the FHA. In defense, Craigslist claimed that it was immune from liability based on Section 230(c)(1) of the CDA, which protects interactive computer services from liability for unlawful third-party content. Should Craigslist be subject to liability for FHA violations? Why or why not? Cite to appropriate legal principles when explaining your answer.

Additionally, provide a discussion on what could have been done better to minimize the risk of failure. FORENSIC DESIGN ASSESSMENTS

This task relates to a sequence of assessments that will be repeated across Chapters 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Select any example of a visualisation or infographic, maybe your own work or that of others. The task is to undertake a deep, detailed ‘forensic’ like assessment of the design choices made across each of the five layers of the chosen visualisation’s anatomy. In each case your assessment is only concerned with one design layer at a time.

For this task, take a close look at the interactivity choices:

  1. Start by identifying all the interactive features deployed, listing them under the headers of either data or presentation adjustments
  2. How suitable are the choices and deployment of these interactive features? If they are not, what do you think they should have been?
  3. Go through the set of ‘Influencing factors’ from the latter section of the book’s chapter to help shape your assessment and to possibly inform how you might tackle this design layer differently
  4. Also, considering the range of potential interactive features and functions, what would you do differently or additionally?

Please ensure the initial post and two response posts are substantive. Substantive posts will do at least TWO of the following:

· Ask an interesting, thoughtful question pertaining to the topic

· Expand on the topic, by adding additional thoughtful information

· Answer a question posted by another student in detail

· Share an applicable personal experience

· Provide an outside source

· Make an argument

At least one scholarly (peer-reviewed) resource should be used in the initial discussion thread. Please ensure to use information from your readings and other sources from the UC Library. Use APA references and in-text citations.

Term Paper

1. DEFINITION

This study is an individual work.

In this assignment, you will research applications of experimental design. Through a review of relevant literature, you will find two articles that present practical applications of DOE in industry (i.e. manufacturing, healthcare, banking, entertainment, construction, energy). The studies may target the same or different industries. You will submit one report that addresses the following in your own words:

· Identification of the industry

· Brief problem summary

· Factors studied

· Responses observed

· Experiment design strategy used

· Findings

Each study must be described in a separate section of your report addressing all the items listed above. The articles must include a practical application example. In your search you should focus on more recent publications (published in the year 2012 and beyond are acceptable).

Note that studies with only simple statistical analysis, for example two sample comparisons, are not acceptable for this assignment. The studies you report on must include experimental design methods such ANOVA, factorial design, fractional factorial design, etc.

Your literature material may consist of the following:

1- Peer reviewed research papers (journal papers or conference proceedings) 2- Case study and/or white papers

There must be two publications discussed in your report, and at least one of them must be a peer- reviewed paper.

2. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

· Use a word processing software to prepare your paper

· Provide complete references, use of Harvard citation style for your entries is strongly recommended, but APA citation style may be used if preferred.

· Submit all your documents including the articles referenced (includes reference papers)

HR 6 Research based

Prepare an 8 page APA style paper using the resources you have read in this course and at least 3 additional peer reviewed resources. Follow the writing requirements for this course. Include an introduction and conclusion in the paper. Remember to use APA formatted headings for each section of the paper and provide in text citations for all paraphrased and quoted material. This paper should address the following questions:

(1) Does Blockchain technology have the potential to cause the paradigm shift in business practices that many experts are predicting? Explain why or why not.  Support your answer with research.

(2) Is there evidence to suggest that Blockchain technology will change the way HR is practiced? If there is, discuss that evidence. If there is not, what issues exist that impede its adoption?

(3) Which functions of human resource management could be most impacted by Blockchain technology? How might the HR functions change? Support your answer with research.

Course writing requirements:

  • References MUST be cited within your paper in APA format. Your reference page and in-text citations must match 100%. Papers without in-text citations will earn failing grades.
