 Case Study 5.2: California’s High-Speed Rail Project

A goal of the Obama administration has been to promote high-speed rail across the most populous and geographically-dispersed states in the United States. The idea is to adopt more energy-saving initiatives while also helping to improve state’s infrastructure.  It is with this in mind that the Federal Government made billions available to various states in the 2008–2010 budget cycles.  After the Fall, 2010 elections, several states that had elected Republican governors refused the grants, suspicious that this seed money would not be sufficient to pay for what they viewed as unnecessary construction based on over-optimistic expectations of the need for and use of high-speed rail.  One of the states that accepted the money and has moved forward strongly into high-speed rail has been California, which has already begun work on a 65-mile section in the middle of the state, earning the derisive nickname, the “train to nowhere.”  This case details the state’s projections regarding the need for high-speed rail, against the views of infrastructure experts and critics who charge that for a state that is already in a severe budget crisis, this is just the sort of project that makes no sense economically or demographically.

Questions

  1. Assess the benefits and drawbacks of the high-speed rail project. In your opinion, do benefits outweigh drawbacks, or vice versa? Why? Justify your answer.
  2. What are the implications of starting a project based on tenuous projections that may or may not come true 10 years from now?
  3. Could you justify the California high-speed rail project from the perspective of a massive public works initiative? In other words, what other factors enter into the decision of whether to pursue a high-speed rail project? Why are they important?

Artificial Intelligence and Predictive Analytics

Instructions:

Discussion Questions:

As you learned in this week’s readings and lessons, Artificial Intelligence and predictive analytics can be utilized in healthcare and global health.

Select a communicable or non-communicable disease and examine AI/predictive analytics and their application in global health.

  1.  Which communicable or non-communicable disease did you examine?
  2.  What was the application of artificial intelligence or predictive analytics to the disease?
  3.  What was the health outcome achieved?
  4.  How was the principle of health equity considered or not considered?
  5. What else did you discover in your examination of the selected disease regarding health outcomes and health equity?

Cisco Passwords

Part 1: Type 5 Cisco Password Hashes

To keep your routers, firewalls, and switches secure, they need good passwords. Type 5 Cisco password hashes employ a technique called salting. Discuss password hashes and salting and discuss password cracking tools or websites that can be used to crack Cisco password hashes. Some of the most popular Linux tools are John the Ripper and Hashcat, which are both already included with the Kali Linux distribution. The Windows tool Cain can also crack Cisco passwords. Use the as is choice and the default wordlist that comes with Cain on the password hashes below. You may elect to crack some of them and explain how you did it for part of this discussion. Include screenshots:

Part 2: Type 7 Cisco Password Hashes

The Cisco type 7 password is not much better than putting the password in clear text, which is the default if you do not type the command service password-encryption. Discuss password hashes and discuss password cracking tools or websites that can be used to crack Cisco type 7 password hashes. Here is a list of some Cisco password hashes. You may elect to crack some of them and explain how you did it for part of this discussion. Include screenshots.

Organization Leader and Decision Making Research Article

This week’s journal article was focused on the Complexity of Information Systems Research in the Digital World.  Complexity is increasing as new technologies are emerging every day.  This complexity impacts human experiences.  Organizations are turning to digitally enabled solutions to assist with the emergence of digitalization.

Please review the article and define the various technologies that are emerging as noted in the article.  Note how these emerging technologies are impacting organizations and what organizations can to do to reduce the burden of digitalization.

Article Journals:

The paper should meet the following requirements:

  • 3-5 pages in length (not including title page or references)
  • APA guidelines must be followed.  The paper must include a cover page, an introduction, a body with fully developed content, and a conclusion.
  • A minimum of five peer-reviewed journal articles.

applied computer science

Besides computers constructed from electronic components what are the three other technologies that have been considered as future ways to fabricate computers

OpenCV with C++

For this project, you are expected to build a 2D based animation, which is often used in video gaming. Below is a captured frame showing what you need to achieve. The basic goal is to let you load different images, and synthesize a new image by putting different images together, and display the final image sequentially to screen.

This animation is about a dinosaur chasing a girl in the forest. To achieve this effect, there are three basic objects involved: a girl, a dinosaur, and a moving background. The relative positions of the dinosaur and the girl can be flexible, as long as the dinosaur is to the left of the girl, which makes sense. You can place the girl in the middle of the image. In practice, you do not need to change the positions of the girl and the dinosaur once the program starts. What you need to do is to load different images (about different poses of the girl and dinosaur) and copy them into the final image sequentially, meanwhile copy different parts of the background image using slide window mechanism to generate the animation effects. All the images involved for this animation have been provided in the attachment.

Project ( DATA )

  project :

(Briefly describe the problem/task (Classification, Clustering, Association Analysis, Anomaly Detection, etc) and the domain (text, image, etc).

(3) What is/are the datasets you are using? Where can we get them (publicly available (URL) or company data)? Describe the data (i.e., what is the size? what are the attributes?)

Case study

Your instructor will assign you to a group. Within your group you can set up a group WebEx, chat, skype, or other communication tool to determine how best to complete this case study. Each person will contribute to the collaboration portion to complete this case study. Include the Names of each member on your team and a brief description as to how they participated.

Active participation is expected, but the quality, not the quantity, is the key to creating a successful collaborative learning environment for everyone. Instructional approaches for this course are highly interactive and experiential.

Scenario/Summary

You have just been hired as an Information Security Engineer for a large, multi-international corporation. Unfortunately, your company has suffered multiple security breaches that have threatened customers’ trust in the fact that their confidential data and financial assets are private and secured. Credit-card information was compromised by an attack that infiltrated the network through a vulnerable wireless connection within the organization. The other breach was an inside job where personal data was stolen because of weak access-control policies within the organization that allowed an unauthorized individual access to valuable data. Your job is to develop a risk-management policy that addresses the two security breaches and how to mitigate these risks.

You will submit your answers as a single paper from the team. Include the Names of each member on your team and a brief description as to how they participated.

Module 5

Competency

Evaluate and revise ethical issues in visual media communication to improve awareness of social perceptions.

Student Success Criteria

View the grading rubric for this deliverable by selecting the “This item is graded with a rubric” link, which is located in the Details & Information pane.

Scenario

You are the campaign manager for a well known environmental outreach organization. The current campaign is to bring awareness to the organization’s Ohio River Clean-Up Project. As the manager, one of your tasks is to review all content and visuals used by the campaign. You actively evaluate and revise any ethical issues that may be detrimental to the project, your organization, or society in general.

As you meet with one of the campaign designers, you identify several ethical problems with the new poster he has created. His poster includes the following elements:

  1. The poster image shows a group of poor, urban, African-American children playing alongside the Ohio River.
  2. The poster text states: “Let’s help them clean up.”
  3. The poster has several overlaid images in the corner of a few celebrities, which gives the impression of celebrity endorsement.
  4. There are no sources acknowledged anywhere on the poster.
  5. The poster has been digitally altered to make the African-American children appear thinner, darker, and dirtier.

Since you are flying out to a campaign meeting in one hour, you ask this campaign designer to hold this poster and wait for your video review.

You plan to take time tomorrow to create a seven minute or less video analysis. Using screen share, you can present the poster image visually and verbally instruct this designer how to correct several ethical visual issues. You realize you will not only have to identify the ethical visual issues and explain how to revise and change them, but you will also need to clearly describe to him the effect these unethical media issues will have on society.
